I found a deal on a conquest 843S rod and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this particular strength/action rod. I normally prefer a medium action rod, but again I found this rod on a deal. Will this rod be too hefty for senkos or tube jigs? Would I be better off saving my money for a 2 power (medium) rod? Thank you.

Not a fan of the Conquest lineup in general. Fished the Conquest alongside many other rods and while a nice rod, I feel IMO there are better options. How big of senkos?

I'll bite. So what are the better options?

I use the Conquest 843c for 5 inch senkos with 1/8 weight. 842c/842s is too soft for a good hook set.

IMO, there are a lot of rods in the $3-500 range that feel, cast, perform as well, if not better, than the conquests at $700.

I was never overly impressed by them, especially at that price point. I'd even go far enough to say the Poison Adrena line is on par with them.

Love my Conquests, they're very versatile with their MBR tapers.  All my spinning models are 842S's.  I tried a 3 power spinning, too stiff for me, but I rarely throw anything bigger than 3/8oz - 1/2oz on a spinning rod.  Good luck.

Thanks. I would of rather got an 842, but all they had in stock was an 843. Hopefully I find a use for it. I just wanted to try a conquest more than anything and see what the hype was all about

I have the 842S in GLX and love the rod but it is a light power medium in my opinion. If you wanted to throw more than 3/8 oz. I highly suggest the 843S. I totally agree with others. The conquest is a sweet stick but destroyer addermine, steez AGS, poison adrena ect… seem right there with it and they have a cleaner build too. If you found one for a steal try it out!

I have an 843S Conquest and absolutely love it. I found a similar deal on one last year and pulled the trigger to see what Conquest life was like. No regrets at all. It is sensitive, throws senkos, tube jigs, nekos, and dropshots all beautifully. If you've used Loomis MBR/SJR tapers before and liked them, I'm sure you'll love it as well. It's an incredibly versatile rod. I was worried a bit at first too about it being a bit too heavy for smaller setups, but I haven't found that to be the case at all on the water.

Ok, so you named one, the Poison Adrena. Wish I could find one in stock, I'd probably buy one.

What are the others? I'm not trying to stir up anything, but really interested in your opinion of the the multiple $3-500 rods that feel, cast and perform as well or better.

I'm not trying to stir up anything,

Neither am I.

I'm also aware of the crud storm stating "XXXX performs as well as YYYY at half the cost" can start.

So I will refrain from making an entire list of rods and what I think. I named Poison Adrena because it's probably at the top of the list, especially for $350.

My advice would be to stay patient and take the opportunity to try, feel, experiment with all of the premium rod builders out there. Megabass, St. Croix, etc. all make very good rods in the $3-500 range.

Some other models that guys will usually cite during a Conquest discussion:

Kistler Z-Bone

St Croix Legend X and Xtreme

“Go custom!”

Loomis GLX and NRX

Daiwa Steez

Dobyns Xtasy

There are others and they all have their fans. For the record, I LOVE the conquests. They’re expensive, yeah...but they’re also my favorite rods for certain things. If you can get a deal on one, I say go for it.

That's awesome to hear. I have no experience with g loomis at all. I live in wisconsin just a couple hours from St. Croix HQ, so I have only really used their rods. I'm hoping that a MH g loomis is kind of like a M St. Croix. Ive heard St. Croix runs heavier than their ratings. Either way I'm glad to hear you like the 843S for senkos and tube jigs, I was a little worried after I bought one online!

Yes, thanks but I'm well aware of the comparable models across some other manufacturers. I was asking for his personal opinion on better rods $3-500.

I've owned or fished Loomis GLX, NRX's, and a few Legend X's. Out of all listed, the only ones I still own are my NRX's. I'm on the fence on the Conquest because I much prefer split grip rods over full cork handles. I almost bought an Xtasy casting rod during the sale but backed out because of the full cork.

Meh, unless it’s an aesthetic thing, the full grips shouldn’t really be an issue. I don’t think it’s something that’s really even occurred to me while using the rod. I cast a lot with one hand though and with two hands, I keep them pretty wide regardless of the rod

I have the conquest 843s , 842s and the 903c as well as the GLX 842, 843 & 844.

To put this in prospective, the conquest are a little more powerful than their GLX counter parts.

They have no trouble with throwing above or below their stated ratings.  At first I thought the cnq 843s was going to be a little to heavy for throwing 5 inch senko's. But it turned out to be perfect. I use 20lb viscous no fade braid with a 5 to 7 ft leader and love it. It had no troubles with a 9.2 lb bass on it's first outing, and many more bass since.

My favorite rod is the G Loomis 843 GLX. I have had 3 and plan to add the 843 conquest.

Thanks for your input. If it pairs well with a 5 inch senko I'm sure it'll work well with moderate size tubes as well.
