Past 2 times I’ve ordered an item on sale at Bass Pro I’ve gotten an email the next day saying the item was no longer in stock and they couldn’t fulfill the order. I’ve learned my lesson

I have had this happen too many times as well.  Sent emails showing my displeasure and they could care less.  It is sad to see this.  I used to get excited as a kid to get the catalogs and have spent a ton of money at both Cabela’s and Bass Pro in the PAST!  Just sad to see these companies move to this.  I am done!

In this case the stradic model is probably being discontinued for the next generation. Thats the only reason for the sale and they literally cannot get any more from shimano. Just speculation but thats how it worked when the current model came out.

I don't get it - is this ci4 the reel to end all reels?  Flash sales are always like this...limited quantity, first come first serve.

No. But...it’s hard to pass up a $80 sale on a very popular, well reviewed reel.

I guess but if.you shop around you can find sales approximately this price.  I have never owned a single shimano product so it just doesn't grab my attention I guess.

Yes this may be the case which allows them to lower the advertised price.

However, pricing it that low is where they are using it as a promotional item to drive traffic. It’s their prerogative but many times it can backfire and create ill will with their core customer base.

I’m not sure how mad people should get?  Because if you got one you would be happy and not complain.  If you were left out then you are upset.  I guess I would rather them offer the deal so at least there’s a chance for me to get it at a basement price.

Idk.  I have found my experience with cabelas has dropped significantly making me want to spend my time and money elsewhere.

And maybe thats the bottom line...if you don’t like what they are doing or how you are treated seek out others who do treat you the way you want to be treated.

It wasn't a flash sale but it did say "While supplies last." However, I think I understand people's frustration. For me it is not about the reel, it is about the methods these companies use to draw in customers. In my case, they waited 2 1/2 days to tell me that my stradic order was cancelled which just happened to be at the same time they told me that my other merchandise already shipped.  I have a hard time believing that BPS cannot monitor inventory in real time and can't prevent you from making purchases on items that are sold out.  Maybe I am wrong,  but it seems more likely that they they don't tell you it is sold out because people often add additional items to their cart when they think they just got a good deal and have free shipping.

At the end of the day, they can do what they want and people can spend our money elsewhere if we want.  Since this isn't the first time I have been frustrated with BPS I think I will just spend my money elsewhere. Doesn't ruin my day I just move on.

Agreed.  This one comes off sort of like a marketing scheme.  I ordered at 7am and like you, no word from them on my cancelled order for a day or two.  My local store was had no stock (1000s) before the sale.

Draw the customers in with limited stock, mark it down to whatever you want, doesn't matter even if they sell below cost since their stock is so limited it doesn't make a dent. Oh well, would have been a spare for me, having the money is fine too.

I agree with this instance, but I have had way too many items cancelled to continue doing business with them.  I just find it sad that a company this size cannot figure out inventory control on a website.

Soooo true, for a company this big to have  such a crappy inventory management system is ridiculous

I suppose the big issue here is the cancelled onlines orders. If you go to the store and they are sold out, tough luck. But I would also be angry if an order were cancelled after it was placed.

I have found the cabelas website to have gone downhill since the BPS acquisition. Theyve got multiple listings for the same thing or a separate listing for just one size of a certain bait.

I think stuff like this is really hit and miss, I got a Native slayer propel 10 kayak from Cabelas on clearance for a little over $1000 which was around 50% off. I was thinking it was an error and I would get the dreaded cancellation email but it showed up about a week later to my house.

I went to my local Cabela's and they were out of almost everything despite the store's fishing section having (supposedly) it's best year yet.  I asked about this reel while I was there and they only had a few left in stock.  They said they were slowly getting stuff and they have been filling internet orders as well on occasion.  Most new incoming stock was held up in customs.

Most everything everywhere right now is held up in some warehouse/boat somewhere.

Idaho is lucky its already at phase 4, everything is open (except REI).   Oregon is at phase 2 and last week opened up some parks for camping in the Gorge.  Most businesses in California are still closed and are not shipping/receiving merchandise (thats where most of the awesome chinese products are stored before they make their way up here).

Its hit and miss everywhere and a lot of online retailers are advertising ebay prices with little to no stock to generate revenue, closeout items, close out brick and mortar stores, even shut down companies (Evinrude).

Look at Megabass for example.  People use to ask every week in the sales thread when another sale was happening.  No one asks anymore, or it was a marketing move last year to get the name out.

My Cabelas in previous years use to receive 1-2 trucks a week and was always out of fishing supplies this time of year.  Sportsmans Warehouse is a ghost town until the winter when the demand is non existent then you can look at pretty packaging because they have inventory.

TW skipped a sales weekend this year.

Pretty soon I think most of us will be pouring molds for our own weights, making plastics, tying hair jigs or sitting inside watching youtube.  While you see most commercial buildings turn into detroit.

Im happy I jumped on the dobyns facebook order this year.    I dont think we will ever see anything like that again.

From a popular fishing reel repair outfit:

Shimano has suspended MAP pricing on the Stradic Ci4+ reels.  There will be no generation 3 on this reel, it will likely be discontinued.

Well, since we have a thread just for BPS/ Cabelas maybe they should make one for Dick's too! ?

I understand why they moved it.  The Sale thread has been getting hijacked quite a bit lately with issues like this.

I have a BPS about 35-40 minutes from me, and I don't go often. They never have anything I want or need, ever. Even before the corona. The fish tank they have always looks horrible like its never taken care of. Most of the people who work there in the fishing dept have no clue what they are doing or talking about. I also have a Cabelas about 50 minutes from me, and one in the other direction a little over an hour. The closer one is very small, about half the size of the other. However both of them have gone really downhill since the BPS takeover. I used to like to go there because they had different stuff and I could actually get some things I wanted plus there was always a good deal in the bargain cave which they did away with in both stores. I don't think I have ordered from either of them online for at least a year now. With so many other places online it doesn't make sense, at least for me unless I have gift cards. I would really like to see someone else move into the area,  since all the DSG around here have almost nothing as it is. I feel like say if Academy came in they would put DSG right out of business. There really isn't much in the way of mom and pop shops here either, for freshwater anyway. When BPS came in it sunk all those businesses.

I hear you on that. I have had the red $$$ with BPS for awhile now. They screwed me over with the Frittside baits recently. But that ok. I basically stopped using them the last 3 or 4 years. Back in the 80's and 90's they were great.
