Hey guys,

I am searching for a very light A-Rig setup to target european bass, here the lakes are smaller and we have to throw more finesse like stuff.

What I want to throw is this Rig: Picasso BFL Smackdown Finesse https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Picasso_BFL_Smackdown_Five_Blade_Umbrella_Rigs/descpage-PSD5.html, maybe even remove some of the blades and go with 3x 3/16oz heads + 3inch Keitechs.

So I was wondering if a 7'3 MH rated up to 20lb line would be enough (paired with braided line) to throw it? I have a Palms Molla MSGC-73MHF if anyone knows that rod in the USA :D

Anyone else throwing A-Rigs on lighter setups?

Tight lines from Germany, the country with no Bass!

I would stay away from a light wire A-rig. The arms will get bent easily and it will be hard to straighten them so they run correctly. IMO, there is nothing "finesse" about an A-rig. This is the biggest argument against fish being line/hook shy.

I use a Flash Mob Jr and modify it a little for a compact A-Rig....Mine is modified for 2 hooks since my state (MD) has that limitation.  I use this compact one for smallmouth in a clear mountain lake and it works well in the right conditions.

Cut the wires shorter and use round-bend pliers to put loops back in them.  I like the version with blades because I think it does 'hide' the wires a bit by flashing around them.

Pic for reference with a S-Crank 1.2 for size comparison....It's really not that big at all.  Baits are 3.5" Keitechs and the two heads are 1/4oz.  I can throw this on any MH rod and 15 or 17lb FC (sometimes braid, but on this small rig not often).

I'm a simple man ?

Instead of Jigheads I use EWG hooks & Texpose everything.

Effective in shallow water

Wow, this is giving me confidence, your rig looks great! I just ordered some FC Sniper in 16lb now, will fish it on a 6.3 gear ratio, maybe higher.

I was asking mself if the wires still bend open to make the trailers look more like a fleeing baitball when you make short pauses in your retrieve by using FC for this application? I think this is very important to this rig!

My water has a visibility of 10ft sometimes so I need FC but dont want to miss this special bending effect of the wires because of line stretch, even with FC Sniper.

Shortening the wires like I did to this one makes it flex a bit less and only having 2 actual jigheads on mine makes it worse (less weight at the ends of wires to pull on them)...But for my application the flex isn't critical for triggering strikes.  I throw this specific one when smallies are aggressively chasing baitfish, they either go all the way or they don't.  I guess what I'm saying is that I don't really pay attention to the flex on it...But it does flex though.

16lb FC should be fine and should still flex the wires.
