Hi.

I 've been a member but haven't fished in years. I finally got out and did some shakedown  trips and one thing keeps coming up.

My boat " glues" itself to the bunk boards when loading. I mean tight. Today I had to use a lug wrench as a lever on the winch to get it in.

I've seen Youtube video on it but can seem to find that brand.

Can anyone shed some help on this. It really is a killer for a 17 foot boat.

Thanks

Do you dunk the boards before trying to load?  Back in enough to completely submerge them then pull up to where you want to be to load.

I believe you can bunk slicks which just screw on to the bunk boards with counter sunk screw heads.

I have seen bunk slicks on Cabelas website.

I'm actually looking at getting these for the canoe trailer.

I've tried a couple slip sprays for trailer bunks, and though they all do work, it's only a temporary fix.

I've found that gaining access to an empty trailer ('before' or 'after' fishing) is rather inconveniencing.

Short of roller bunks, a more permanent solution are the 'nylon bunk glides'.

Or just replace the bunks entirely with these babys.

That's one approach I've never tried, but it certainly makes sense.

With the teflon glides I've used, you need to watch for protruding screw-heads (yikes)

Ya - the ones I'm looking at don't have a flat surface...there-fore the protruding screws aren't as much of an issue.

Yeah, mucho better.

And the reduced surface area will mean less drag

I have a boat house where the trailers are attached to a winch so power loading isn’t an option. I spray my carpeted bunks on my bass boat with Teflon spray lubricant about once a year and it makes a huge difference. Make sure your bow strap is attached before pulling in/out of the water or your boat could slide off easily. I unhooked mine too early once and had to swim out to catch my boat.

I can’t remember the brand but it was like $5 at Home Depot and I’ve had the same can for years now.

I got a spray off of Amazon that A-jay sent me. I have a reservoir  nearby that's usually empty during the week. I'll try it out.

Yes my trailer was completely submerged, so much so I had to push the boat sideways over a bunk board, still no help ( I have a blown out disk, had a back belt on tight, still paying for that dumb move).

The entire setup is old but been in the garage so it needs a little work. New tires, batteries, gas stuff like that. Slowly working the gas out and into my truck 5 gallons at a time. I won't ever fill that tank up again, 27 gallons is to much for that motor.

My neighbor gave me a good hint when I can't power load it. Run the bow winch out all the way to the end of trailer, drape it over then pick it up with the boat hook.

There is a bass pro shop nearby, I'll have to check if they're open yet maybe I'll get some more ideas. Plus I like going there :)

Thanks for all the replies, it's appreciated.

Maybe try backing the trailer farther down into the water, give the boat a little more floatation, but not so much that it drifts off the bunks before you get in to tow it up.

What Redmexican and Glenn said.  Back the trailer up to get the bunks wet, pull it out to the right depth and load.

oh, forgot to say. electric lake, no power loading, and a strange dock. power loading is still a bit hard on a steep ramp. I'll see what happens after the treatment Thursday or Friday.

thanks

@A-Jay

WOW man thanks a ton. went out today and that stuff is like ice. like the reviews said it would slide back off the trailer. I pulled it on most of the way with the rope. That was impossible before.

Didn't catch anything but all I had was top water stuff. I got the right tackle on the way home.

Shakedowns almost done, need to solder the spade connectors on the trolling motor( that thing had to be built on a Monday morning or  Friday afternoon, everything has come loose), look into using my 24V Stern Motor other than that it was a really good day even with two very young pain in the neck Federal Park Rangers.

Again Thanks a lot.

Got them in on Monday, installed them yesterday. Here's how it looks...

Steep ramps changes the dynamic and the sweet spot on a "regular" ramp is going to be different on a steep ramp.

That's going work great, and should last forever.

Couldn't help but notice your rod holders

I just put gatorback bunk covers on. They look like they'll do good. Have not loaded\unloaded yet. Have read a lot of good reviews on them.

Just an FYI:

I  took it to the Potomac this morning and the reviews for that spray were right.

My brother came along to give me a chance to power launch it.....well I couldn't, why?

Every time he turned the winch to get some slack the boat slipped off tight again.

I ended up throwing him the bow line to pull me in some so he could get it off. Then the entire thing slide off before I even got it into gear.

Oh power loading was fun and very easier than winching
