pharmfisher Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I'm looking to buy a high end spinning set up for for soft plastics. I throw a weightless senko 90% of the time, and occasionally light tubes or a drop shot. My question for you all is regarding braided line. I am pretty set on using braided line. Has anyone had any issues with using a braid to fluoro leader and having the leader knot get stuck on the small REC guides of the NRX? Does anyone have any other rod recommendations for a senko rod? Looking for the most sensitive rod I can get. I also looked into the new St. Croix Legend Xtreme. Thank you Quote
thunderblack Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 NRX is nice. Also check out the poison adrena 6'11 MH, extreme old or new style, GLX 852S, or Steez AGS Medium F. Quote
Manifestgtr Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 The nrx awesome but I have a couple rods I just like better for different reasons...the conquest 2 power and the legend x medium xf. The legend x tip is otherworldly...the best I own. It loads weightless plastics like no other rod I own. It’s better balanced than my comparable nrx. Torzite guides, a comfortable reel seat and better cork. It’s just a great rod top to bottom. The conquests don’t need much “hype”. They pretty much speak for themselves. I do use an nrx for senkos, though. You can feel the details of a strike really well with an nrx and that’s important with senkos, IMO. If you wait too long to swing, you’re probably gonna gut hook him and that’s never fun. Quote
JLewis134 Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 NRX 852 is a sweet rod! Can't go wrong ever Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted June 12, 2020 Super User Posted June 12, 2020 852 is awesome for senkos and plastics. Too stiff for drop shots, in my opinion. It's a pretty powerful rod, despite the 2 power. Quote
Pogues2300 Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I have the glx 852s, fantastic rod. Also have a 873crr nrx. No issues with fg knot going through the guides. Quote
Bandersnatch Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I drop shot on my 852s with braid to leader. I've never had much problem with braid to leader. Imo you don't want to cast a 6 inch senko with it though, 5 inch is maxed out. It's an extremely sensitive rod. 1 Quote

I would assume a small weighted tube would also be a little heavy. Unfortunately I live nowhere near a dealer to look at these rods Quote
Matt_3479 Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 The nrx 852 has become my favourite spinning rod by far. It’s unbelievably sensitive and light but a significant amount more power then expected! It’s my favourite senko’s rod for sure. Never throw drop shot but sure it would work for heavier drop shots. Works well for tubes, shakey heads, heavier neds, awesome neko rod, weightless flukes! A 5 inch senko weighs.0.35oz, a 6 inch senko weighs 0.58oz....... Quote
Bass Rutten Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 I used one for 2 1/2 years b4 trading it, super sensitive but it’s got such a fast tip that it just is not a very good caster, do yourself a favor b4 you buy one and look up punchfishing on utoob and watch his review of the nrx 872s 1 Quote
katmandew Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 I've been contemplating this rod for neds, senkos, small swimbaits, shakeyheads. If its rated at such light weights how does it have trouble getting good casting distance? Is the parabolic bend that much less than that of the 872s? Also, is there an online shop/dealer somewhere that anyone can recommend that I can get a better price on an NRX than Tackle Warehouse? Quote

The reason is because it’s got a very very fast tip and in my opinion its weight range *feels* like it should be more like 3/16-1/2, it goes into the backbone really close to the tip, like 80/20 or maybe even a bit closer. The reason the light weight range I’m sure is because it’s such a high modulus blank and and therefor more brittle and prone to breaking. Quote

Didnt realize that was an issue with these. Quote

Rodney Smith Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 I am considering the 852s. How does it do skipping a 5 inch wacky rigged Senko? Quote
RDB Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 The NRX 852 is a great rod. G Loomis has a history of under rating their lure ranges. I have only broken 1 G Loomis rod (Conquest-hook set) and it was replaced under warranty (defect). You don’t want to go way over the ratings but in my experience, they all punch above their listed range. The other great thing about G Loomis rods is they hold their value. Even though they are expensive, if you buy at a good price and take care of it, you will lose very little on resale. Last point, you can buy new at a discount. Dealers are not allowed to advertise discounts without approval so you need to ask. I have gotten 20% off on all of my new NRX rods. Not sure on the NRX+ since they are new. 1 Quote
Msl819 Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 I also have the 852s in the NRX+ And am very pleased. I would say there is a reason it is one of their more popular rods. Not sure if the NRX+ are more sensitive than their NRX predecessors but the external spiral X wrap seems to be much more durable. 3 Quote
