Otter17 Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I have a “General Utility” use set up for largemouth. Its a 3000 spinning combo With a 6’6” medium power rod. What would be best general lb test for this application? Thankyou! Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted June 12, 2020 Super User Posted June 12, 2020 I like to use 30 pound test braid or 8-15 pound test mono for most of the largemouth bass fishing I do. There are times where I use lighter or heavier line depending on where I am fishing and other factors. 1 Quote
OnthePotomac Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I have the same set up and have always had 8lb BPS Excel mono on it for many years and it has always been a simple, trouble free deal and have caught a whole lot of Potomac river bass on it over the years. I respool once a year. Glory be, I am fishing with plain old 8lb mono on a spinning reel. 1 Quote
waymont Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 To your question, for your set up I would recommend 15 or 20lb braid to 12lb leader. 1 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted June 12, 2020 Super User Posted June 12, 2020 General utility, I'd probably go with 20lb braid. If you're throwing lighter baits in general though, I'd go with something like 10 lb Sufix Nano Braid. It'll boost your casting distance and still has plenty of strength. 1 Quote
ckherring92 Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 For spinning setups for bass, i typically use anywhere from 12-20 lb braid depending on the brand you pick. i lean toward to lighter side but for example 12lb asegai is only slightly thinner then 20lb smackdown ect. i typically run braid to leader, usually 8-10lb flouro *typically run 30lb asegai on baitcasters but that doesnt really gear toward your question haha 1 1 Quote
Otter17 Posted June 12, 2020 Author Posted June 12, 2020 Thanks guys, I’ve narrowed it down to 15 or 20. Not really sure if there is much casting difference between the two. Quote
Otter17 Posted June 15, 2020 Author Posted June 15, 2020 15lb Power Pro V2 Onyx it is! I already have the 10lb V2 on my ML finesse set up, and love that braid. So just stuck with it in the 15lb for my M setup. Thanks for your help guys! ?? 1 Quote
