.zoso Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I’m going to get a Dobyns fury as an all around rod. I fish from the bank, but I don’t know whether to get the 6’6 or 7 foot . Sometimes fishing in tight spots and I’m not sure if the extra length would be a problem Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted June 12, 2020 Super User Posted June 12, 2020 Shore fishing? When in doubt, I'd go for the 6'6". Quote

But I'm shopping around for a shorter rod. Go with a 6'6" or 6'8". Quote
Super User RoLo Posted June 12, 2020 Super User Posted June 12, 2020 For shore fishing, accuracy is usually (but not always) more important than distance (i.e. shorter rod). When navigating brushy shorelines, the shorter rod will really be appreciated. Roger Quote

Glaucus Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I hated the spinning rods but the casting rods were fine. The 6'6" versions are stouter and faster than their 7'+ siblings. The 4 power is the best all around power when you're talking about the typical 7' all around bass rod. But the 6'6" 4 power is super fast and like a broomstick, more like a 5 power. Terrible for treble baits which wouldn't make it an all around rod. But then the 3 power 6'6" rod is great for trebles and t-rigs and spinnerbaits but awful for jigs and chatterbaits at 3/8oz with a trailer and up. Trade offs have to be made. I'd just get the 704C honestly and be good with throwing basically everything. As a bank beater myself I preferred the shorter rods for carrying and travel and accuracy, but at the same time I always found myself at some point wishing the rod was longer. This season it's been primarily 7' rods and accuracy hasn't been impacted at all and I rarely find the longer rod to be a burden and never wish it was 6'6" anymore. Quote
Southernbasser Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I bank fish with the Dobyns fury 6'6" rod. I mainly cast crankbaits and t-rigged plastics, maybe an occasional drop shot but that's all. Personally, I like the shorter rod. I am able to cast far enough with it. Neither do I have to worry about getting caught in a tree or brush. But, it is definitely stout. Quote
