SC53 Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 For walking the dog. What do you guys recommend? Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted June 11, 2020 Global Moderator Posted June 11, 2020 Scum Frog trophy series. You’re gonna get a dozen different suggestions. No matter what you choose, if you cut one leg shorter it’ll walk easier. Mike 2 Quote
r83srock Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 I like the scum frog trophy series too, as well as the Strike King frog. For a popping frog the booyah popping pad crasher walks well. Quote
Uncle_MC Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I do not have enough frog experience to recommend a good walker, but as for a recommendation of one to avoid (for this application) would be the Mann's Superfrog. Not to say it's a bad frog as I've got two 4+lb largemouth on it so far this year. Just takes a lot of focus and not very easy. My best luck with this frog on it has come from a really slow retrieve, crawling it over pads. Disclaimer: I have not tried cutting the legs, @Mike L. I will do that tomorrow and see if I notice any difference. Hopefully I can get back with some results. Quote
SC53 Posted June 12, 2020 Author Posted June 12, 2020 Mike, I’ll have to try the one legged frog trick on the ones I have and check out the Scum frogs. To clarify a little more, I’m looking for some that will walk best in more open water situation, like over the tops of submerged hydrilla. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted June 12, 2020 Super User Posted June 12, 2020 I've never fished a frog that was easier to walk than a tail-weighted "Boze ZZ Walker" (probably discontinued) Truthfully, any frog can easily be walked if you provide some slack-line 'before' & 'after' each jerk. Roger 1 Quote
BoatSquirrel Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I love frogs. Spro Bronzeye and Booyah PadCrashers are interchangeable, both very good walkers. The Jackall Gavacho is the easiest of all the frogs I have fished. They all will walk with very slight rod movement, and some good ol powerpro braid. Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted June 12, 2020 Global Moderator Posted June 12, 2020 Pad Crasher, hands down. 2 Quote
Ogandrews Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 River2sea bullywa2 65 size walks super well. Pad crashers walk well but have too lite wire hooks for me and tear up way too easily. Popping frogs in general walk super easily, I’ve always been a van of the terminator popping frog, almost as easy to walk as a spook. 1 Quote
swhit140 Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I've been using the Savage Gear 3D Floating Skirt Frog 2.75" and have doing pretty good so far with it. I've caught about 50-60 fish on them and have held up well. It has a pretty good side to side twitch action in a open pocket. I also use the Spro Bronzeye. Quote

On Any frog, there is no need to cut a leg shorter than in half. Experiment a little with whatever you chose. Also, any quality frog will walk over anything as long as it floating and enough slack is given with each pull as @RoLo said. Mike 1 1 Quote
Heartland Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 Jackal Iobee, no need to cut or bend anything, take it out of the pack, tie it on and fish. Quote
SC53 Posted June 12, 2020 Author Posted June 12, 2020 Mike I knew what you meant on the leg shorter. I can walk a spook with the best of them but just can’t seem to get the frogs I have to cooperate. I’ll get some of the ones recommend. Thanks guys. 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 12, 2020 Super User Posted June 12, 2020 Pony Gabot is the easiest walking frog with zero modifications needed that I have used. Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted June 12, 2020 Super User Posted June 12, 2020 I haven't used a ton of frogs...I've used h2o express, strike king, live target and pad crasher.Booyah is the easiest out of that bunch for me...also my favorite overall frog. It's cheap durable and catches fish. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 13, 2020 Global Moderator Posted June 13, 2020 Spro Bronzeye Shad is the easiest to walk but I catch more fish with a Booyah Popping Pad Crasher and it's really easy to walk too. 1 Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted June 13, 2020 Super User Posted June 13, 2020 Terminator popping frogs walks easily straight out the package. Got some Jackall Gavachos coming from TW (hopefully before frog seasons over) that supposedly walk great. 1 Quote
Rpratt Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Here is some frog fishing beginner perspective. I have only been fishing frogs for about a month. Why? Because where I live I don't have the big grass mats, Lily pads, and all that cool typical frog magic looking stuff. But I do have a friend that fishes them and I noticed he still catches fish on more open type water, so I have gave it a shot. Want to walk the frog? Shorter movements. I couldn't walk a frog to save my life until I shortened up. Now I can make it sit in place and walk back and forth. Took me about a week of practice so you can do it too.(my wrist is very sore) Popping frogs are easiest. Spro Bronzeye and Jackel Gavacho are very easy to walk. 1 Quote

I dropped my rod length to 7' from 7'6" and it's much less stress on my wrist. Quote

The slack line before the jerk creates an explosion point that delivers a crisp lurch. The slack line after the jerk offers the frog freedom of movement to pivot. When the rhythm is correct, it feels like you're driving nails in the side of your hull ? Roger 2 Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted June 14, 2020 Super User Posted June 14, 2020 bullywa2 and the big pony gabbot are both very easy to walk. Quote

YoTone Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 Ive liked the spro spit shad recently. they walk with a spit pretty nicely. Ive been playing around with the strike king sexy frog too and is pretty similar to the pad crasher in how easy they can walk. Quote
