Matt_3479 Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Hey everyone, getting my first deep cranking set up for 6xd, 10xd, deep-six ect. Rod should be here in a week or two, reel in trying to finalize decisions but I’m curious which line to spool up? Somewhat partial to sunline for fluoro, so thinking shooter, sniper or assassin? Any thoughts Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted June 11, 2020 Super User Posted June 11, 2020 I'm going to say what I use and bet that I am in a small minority. I use 18lb Sniper and here is why. I want them to run deep and I know thinner diameter is better, but most of the places I fish have timber, brush, etc. in places where I want to throw them. I tried 10lb and if I got snagged there was absolutely no getting it back. I then went to 14lb and found that it got pretty nicked up after some use and I was worried about breaking on a fish. I switched to 18lb a month or so ago and I haven't had much chance to use a deep crank since, but that will soon change. The couple times I have thrown them I have noticed a couple things that I do not like. First being casting distance. I want to really bomb a deep crank and noticed that I did lose some distance especially into the wind. The next thing, and this is something that is probably more of a mental thing, but I don't like the size of the knot. It seems bulky and if I get near grass it catches it. In open water this isn't a problem but if I am getting it in the grass it is a pain. I have some 16lb I can try if I end up not liking the 18. Quote
