I went to a private bourbon tasting raffle today and I was able to pick up a Stagg 23A  and a 2024 Michters barrel strength rye. They are both fantastic.... Easily top 5 pours for me for sure and thats fresh cracked bottles.

I’m not much of a drinker at all, but with the cold nights and potential large heating bills I have enjoyed a dink wile sitting in front of the fireplace.

Right now I have been partaking in an Uncle Nearest 1856 which I rather enjoy.

I’d like to try a Knobel whiskey next, but ai can’t find it around here.

Good evening everyone. So I’m going to start by saying I’m not at all a whiskey/scotch drinker but I’m asking for some guidance on a bottle I purchased for my dad for Christmas. So for some context my dad is in his 80’s and I’m not sure how great his taste buds are but he likes single malt scotch so  I picked up a gift set of Glenmorangie which consists of a 750 ml bottle of 10 year and 2 sample sized bottles of 12 and 14 year bottles and I’m hoping those of you that are more informed than me can share if you know anything about the flavor profile so I can share with my dad.  I purchased the gift set at Binny’s which if anyone is from Illinois will understand and the young lady who helped me pick this out was very informative but also a salesperson so again this is why I’m looking for any information you guys are willing to share. I’ll close this out by saying I realize it’s not a very pricey bottle but I’m hoping it pours at or hopefully above its price point. Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone who takes the time to reply.

That's a decent Scotch...not top of the line, but good for the price....I think he'll be happy with it.

I find that scotch drinkers are either single malt or blended and really don't play in the same sand box with each other. At least, that is my experience and observations.

I'm not a scotch drinker. My dad is and he was a blended guy. He started off with Dewars, Chivas Regal and ran through the color spectrum of Johnnie Walker. If he offers, I will have a small pour and it was usually Johnnie Black.

Single malt has so many different flavor profiles and for single malt drinkers, they tend to settle in on a small few. I could be wrong, but that has been my observation. I'm guessing @TnRiver46 can offer up better knowledge on the subject matter.

I’ve only had glenmorangie once as a Christmas present and it was a very small bottle. Been a while, but I feel as though it reminded me of a highland taste. I like the smoky peaty burn of islay

My wife asked me what I wanted this year for X-mas, and I told her she already got me a present, then proceeded to pull this bottle out of a bag. Now all she does is have to put some lures in my stocking and I'm set.

Celebrating Xmas all day with my amazing wife and sharing a pour of an outstanding Smoke Wagon private barrel.  Has the standard "buttery" flavor and oily legs of most Smoke Wagon bourbons with great cinnamon, cherry and vanilla taste.

Hahaha…I really have no idea what this means and I’m hoping you’re emoji selection is used in a positive way as intended :)

Man, who knew a bottle of Chianti can have this much effect. Not sure if it’s a curse or a blessing and I only have @12poundbass to blame :)

If it keeps things light and provides camaraderie then I’ll have to keep it in the rotation :)

You guys are too much :)

Happy New Year

Totally joking my friend -

Lynn & I have been binge watching Law & Order,

(for like 20 years LOL)

and we say this all the time.

Especially when it totally doesn't apply.

We're weird like that . . .

@Jigfishn10 @A-Jay if nothing else, I’ve learned something from this. I always thought it was “cause for speculation.” Now that I know it’s “calls”, I’m one step closer to passing the BAR exam.

Watch out Perry Mason! 😁

I haven't seen @slonezp recently on here.  He's the one who started this thread.

Actually I see now it doesn't even recognize his screen name either.
