Back in the day, a common word used in taverns & saloons was 'highball', a word I never hear anymore.

A highball is any drink made with liquor and a mixer, like a Seven & Seven, Gin & Tonic or Scotch & Soda.

When I was growing up in New Jersey, if you just asked for a "highball",

you'd most likely get Rye & Ginger Ale (yuck!).

Enjoying a glass of Larceny. IMO the best under $25 bottle of bourbon on the market.

Well I don't have a camera on me or the motivation to get one, but today I'm drinking an IPA, Birds of a Deather by Lamplighter Brewing Co. I hardly drink IPAs these days, but the store I was at has a huge selection of IPAs and this time of year not much else. I've been drinking a lot of red ales, golden ales, blonde ales, porters and stouts for beer. And some wine - usually pinot noir, merlot or cabernet savignon.

Tonight was a glass of Yellowtail “Big Bold Red” wine with my pasta fagioli (Pasta and beans)

I am a fan of red blend wines.

That explains it. My folks lived in Chicago as well, not sure which neighborhood the Grandparents were in back then. I wondered if it was a local thing because I've never seen/heard many people drinking CC and water other than family back then.

Pinot Noir (white) & Tanqueray Gin make a slam-dunk martini  :drinking-41:

1/2oz simple syrup(sugar water), 3/4oz lime juice, 2oz vodka.

This was dads drink when he was in college. Dad is 80. I've never had one until this past week. We were up in Sturgeon Bay fishing, I cracked open a Miller Lite and he made himself a vodka gimlet. Thought I'd try one.

For years I had vodka and Simply Limeade, sounds about like this.   I love bourbon but,  drink two fat gin and tonics every night.  One family gathering we were talking about gin.  My youngest daughter claimed she liked gin and tonics.  I asked her why she always made a Mr. Yuk face when she tasted my gin and tonic.  I think she said something about the lack any measurable tonic. LOL

Killed the last 4 fingers of Elijah Craig yesterday. Tonight is Jim Beam Peach with Canfield's Bold Ginger Ale. Bought it the first time about 8 weeks ago when mom was in Hospice. Dad's name is Jim and mom's name was Peaches. Saw it on the shelf and had to have it. It's a nice summer drink.

I’ve never been a huge red wine drinker, but lately I’ve been enjoying some Apothic Red out of California. Goes well with just about anything, even on its own. Beer wise my favourite is a local brewery, Muskoka Craft Lager. It’s about the only beer I drink anymore, except for a few different reds.

Not a big wine fan either but I do like that wine.

My brother, who lives in Carlsbad, CA, shipped me a bottle of Mauricio Lorca 2018.

It's a syrah wine, and I will say, it's more full-bodied than many burgundys & merlots.

I agree. Great red blend wine.

I find it lacking much of anything, I feel as if it’s been watered down.

So who gets your vote for an under $25 bottle?

I've never tried larceny but it's on my radar. For the price I'm a fan of Buffalo Trace...may be cliche since everyone knows about it but it's just good imo. Tonight I'm just having a little Jameson with 1 rock...nothing special but it's easy, non challenging and drinkable.
