Super User Log Catcher Posted June 10, 2020 Super User Posted June 10, 2020 I just put new line on a couple of spincast reels for my wife to use. I used 10# Sufix Elite. It seems to be a little bit springier than I thought it should be. I put it on with the line coming off the top of the spool under tension. Should I have done this a different way? Is there a different line I should have used that might be better? I will find out if there are any problems once she gets to try it. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted June 10, 2020 Super User Posted June 10, 2020 General rule for me is line should come off bottom of spool for spinning and top for baitcasters. Since Spincast reel is similar to spinning I would have the line come of the bottom. Elite is limp and suitable for spinning gear so the problem should not be the line. 1 Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted June 10, 2020 Author Super User Posted June 10, 2020 I have the line come off the bottom for spinning gear. Since the rotation was in the opposite direction from my spinning gear I thought it might need to come from the top. Thinking has gotten me in trouble before. Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 10, 2020 Super User Posted June 10, 2020 What Spincast reel and what direction does the line rotar spin? Tom Quote
Super User RoLo Posted June 10, 2020 Super User Posted June 10, 2020 Respooling is easily done without paying any attention to Left & Right, Top & Bottom or labels. You're "only" job is to be certain that the rotary direction of the line coming off the supply spool, is the same rotary direction as the line being laid on your reel-spool. That's all she wrote. Tom These are early model BPS Extreme spincast reels. Holding the rod and reel in a normal fishing position the line pickup is spinning clockwise looking at it from the back of the reel. They are rated to handle up to 12#line. Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 11, 2020 Super User Posted June 11, 2020 That would be normal rotation for spinning reels. Spin cast reels are closed faced with hood over the spool making it impossible to see what is going on. Spin cast reels I am familiar with have very narrow small diameter spools compared to open faced spinning reels. How anyone thinks putting larger diameter line on a narrow small diameter spool is OK is beyond me. The problem may be over filling and putting the on under tension. Use very light tension with the line coming off the bottom of the spool and do not over fill! You can walk off all the line and rewind it running the line lightly between your fingers. Tom 1 Quote
