Super User Raul Posted June 12, 2020 Super User Posted June 12, 2020 around 250 each is pretty much what I would spend, does that mean I won't spend more ? in a reel yes, I would spend more, not in a rod, to be honest, it comes to a point where I can't tell the difference. I have several GLoomis GL2 and IMX, I certainly can feel the difference, then one day I got a GLX ( back then the most expensive rod GLoomis had ) and I swear I couldn't feel the 100 bux difference between the IMX and the GLX. 1 Quote
Randy Price Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I'm a SC and Shimano guy for the most part. My least expensive rods are Avids and my most are the LE's and LX's. I was using an Avid yesterday with an older Daiwa Ballistic and thought how good it all felt. A couple of years ago I bought a Daiwa Revros 2000 size and was VERY impressed with it. Makes me rethink that it has to be a Stradic Ci4+. 1 Quote
JediAmoeba Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 My cap is 200 each. I am way too hard on my gear to spend more than that. I honestly try and keep it around 100-150 each though. 1 Quote
Smelter96 Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 No cut off for me. I can wait till a good price shows up for something. I'll try my best not to buy at retail unless it's something totally awesome. 1 Quote
gilkeybr Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 As many say I look more for value than for outright price. But this in practice puts my limit around 350-400 at the absolute max. It'd be hard to sell a block of gold for that much, none the less a used fishing pole! But if I can find a used Conquest for $450? Why not... 1 Quote
txchaser Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Whatever the price point happens to be where I can just fish it and not feel like I have to baby it. I'm not notably rough on them, but they aren't stored in a boat locker so they are in and out of the truck all the time. 1 Quote
t_bone_713 Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 I normally go about 100 to 150 each side. I really try and keep it around the $200 dollar price point in total with sales and such. A lot of that is for feel and really just because I want it. Point being I got my PB on a 50 dollar rod and a 50 dollar reel spooled with mono. Creature comforts. 2 Quote
Fin S Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 I like to stay at about $100-$150 for reels and $150-$200 for rods. But, I might stretch for something I really want. 1 Quote
ISuckAtBassFishingBoise Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 $150 spinning $100 casting $100-180 Rod 1 Quote
NOC 1 Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 I will go maybe $350 for a reel and $650 for a rod (so far). Typically though I look for a mint used $500 reel for $350 and a mint $650 rod for maybe $350. That said I have 12-13 setups like that and then another 19 or so that are considerably cheaper that I bought while discovering that, "Yes, I can tell the difference between a $200 rod and a $400 rod". I should sell some of it, but that is such an inconvenient thing to do. 1 Quote
