Rodney Smith Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 I have the new Metaniums, Bantams, and Chronarch MGL's. For my one main jig/worm rod, I was toying with the idea of an Antares. It is insanely expensive. For anyone who was used these reels, is it worth it? Quote

Yes the reel is worth it and for about 100 dollars more than a 20 JDM Met. 2 Quote
Manifestgtr Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 I’ve been wondering about this, myself. I’ve never pulled the trigger on an Antares but the 70 seems like it might actually be practical...relatively speaking at least... So far, I’m having a difficult time imagining any new Shimano being nicer than the 20 met but I’m open minded. I would see it “taking the place” of the 13 metanium on my conquest 844 jig rig. Quote
newyorktoiowa57 Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 I will get one of the ever come out with an XG version. I don't like 7 speed reels Quote
gilkeybr Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 The Antares 70 has a feeling of quality that is a step above all the other shimanos i've owned. The USDM price is hard to stomach, but if you get a JDM version i'd say its worth the small added cost. 2 Quote
FrankN209 Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 For me, it was well worth the price. Casts very well, smooth, solid feeling. Better than all the reels that I've owned before. 2 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 10, 2020 Super User Posted June 10, 2020 I have the left hand version from Japan and it is one of the finest reels I have ever used. If you have used one the older Antares/Calais this reel is nothing like it. Everything about it is better. I am currently using it on a NRX 853C for T-rigged soft plastic, spinnerbaits, and my favorite, Dark Sleepers. If you can get the JDM version since it's cheaper, I would highly recommend it. Quote
