Jake51823 Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 Hey all, so my question is if you could have one line only and nothing else to fish on all of your setups, what would it be? Mainly asking this just to see everyone’s opinions, want to hear everyone’s views and ideas! Me? I personally think I would have to go with either Yo-Zuri hybrid #6 for spinning and #12 for bait caster because that line is really jack of all trades. Or something that I’ve really liked recently is KastKing’s FluoroKote #8 or #10 for spinning and #14 for bait caster. It’s cheap and I’ve been loving it lately with the mix between Fluorocarbon and monofilament. What about all of you? And what lb or # for spinning and bait casting? Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted June 9, 2020 Super User Posted June 9, 2020 Interesting thread. I'm surprised I've never seen it before in mid January. All that aside, I'm going with 15lb. PLine Tactical. 1 1 Quote

All that aside, I'm going with 15lb. PLine Tactical. Really good line. I used to use it all the time. I usually order my line online and I stopped using it because about 3 times in a row the line I received was frayed and had a bunch of nicks in it. Probably just some bad batches so I had to rely on some others and that’s how my favorites came to where they are now. 4 minutes ago, plawren53202 said: 12 lb. Sufix Advance Heard of this. Not a huge fan, but it works well enough. For me, it's Tatsu. 6lb spinning and 15lb casting. That line can handle everything. You can fight crime with a spool of Tatsu. 3 Quote

Can run that bank account low in a short amount of time though if you don’t watch out! Quote

I love Tatsu, but wouldn't want to use it for everything, even if it was free. The thought of using fluoro for topwater gives me nightmares. Not a fan of fluoro for much other than bottom contact baits really. Some of the best stuff out there for bottom fishing baits though. 12 minutes ago, Jake51823 said: Mono or the Flourocarbon coated stuff? Heartland Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 Formerly it would have been 12lb Tatsu probably as good a FC line as you are going to find. I have switched my thinking the last couple of years and have been using Sunline Shooter Defier Armilo so if I can only pick one then this is my choice. 1 Quote

Don’t think I’ve heard one bad thing about this line. I have only about a days experience with it and it did perform well. Quote

Scrapiron Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 I’ll add my vote for Tatsu. But gosh, Sufix 832 has always been solid for me. and Armilo? Guess I should give that a try soon. ? Quote

Guess I should give that a try soon. ? You and me both! It really comes down to preference I feel like. Tatsu is the best fluoro by far and you could make an argument that 832 or power pro is the best braid. However, I would choose fluoro over braid 99% of the time due to preferences. Quote
Scrapiron Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 @Jake51823 as a recent “convert” to FC, totally agree! I’ve caught more and larger fish using FC since switching. Could be lots of factors involved of course, but FC seems to do it. Now on my spinning reels- about the same catch ratio with braid. But a Ned rig in FC is a winner for me. But OH that line twist! I’m using Sunline Shooter Finesse 7#. Maybe I should try something else. 1 Quote
Jake51823 Posted June 9, 2020 Author Posted June 9, 2020 @Scrapiron that’s a good place to start for FC. I’ve always loved mono but felt like I needed less stretch for extra sensitivity and for better hook sets so I switched or half switched. I’ve been using a lot of copoly lines instead of full FC. with the best I’ve used being yo-Zuri that line is tough as nails with barely any stretch. Been recently using KastKing Fluorokote, much cheaper and great line as well! @Scrapiron also couple squirts of KVD line & lure does the trick with fluoro. Quote
Manifestgtr Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 Big game 10lb...end of story... I’ve been loving my braid to leader setups recently but if I was backed into a corner, I could return to 100% big game. I did it for 30 years (except for that one summer when spider wire first showed up at k-mart) and I could do it again. 10 lb might seem a little light to some and I agree but only because of things like abrasion, etc. From a purely logistical standpoint, 10lb works on all my rods, in all my reels, will cast anything from weightless plastics on up. The only true bummer would be my frogging rig but hey...what are you gonna do... 1 Quote

Will fix your line twists and jumping off the spool 1 Quote

NavyVet1204 Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 As a recent fluorocarbon convert, my vote goes to Seaguar Red Label in the 12 and 15# weights. This stuff has been great! My now go to line. Quote

Super User Cgolf Posted June 9, 2020 Super User Posted June 9, 2020 If it had to be just one line for both it would be suffix 832, but that would be a hard switchover on spinning reels. Then again I may just switch to all spinning setups and stick with fireline. I have been using that stuff since it came out and I don't ever see a reason to put something else on a spinning reel. I don't believe it would work on a baitcaster though. I have been using a Fluoro leader the last couple of years, but it isn't a necessity. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted June 9, 2020 Super User Posted June 9, 2020 I had to think long and hard about this and it still came down to Yo-Zuri Hybrid. If I could have multiple weights - 8# Spinning, 12# Baitcasting. If I have to stick to one weight, 10# - I have that on my Trion-35 currently, had it on the Trion-30 last year and it does fine. 2 Quote

I'm really liking it so far, and that's after several months of use in both spinning and baitcasting functions. To me it mainly acts like mono, certainly it has much more of the softness and castability of mono, but with noticeably less stretch and increased sensitivity, like fluoro. 2 Quote
