reo Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Going to put a fishfinder on the bow with the transducer on the trolling motor. My question is do I turn the unit off every time I move/pull the motor or is it OK to leave it on when running between spots? Thanks in advance reo Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 i turn mine off before i move to a different spot, it seems to mess up if i leave it on and not get an accurate reading when i put it back in the water. I do have a lower priced unit which probably doesn't help. Quote
jamarkwe Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I was once told to turn the sonar off if the transducer was not in the water. Something about the transducer would over heat. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted March 10, 2009 Super User Posted March 10, 2009 Never have and never will turn one off when I pull the TM out of the water. I turn mine on the first time I drop the TM in the water and it stays on until I turn the main power switch off at the ramp to load the boat. Quote
quanjig Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 What does the owners manual say? If you don't have that, then contact the manufacturer. My Hummingbird is supposed to be turned off when not in the water. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted March 10, 2009 Super User Posted March 10, 2009 I turn my Lowrance off each time. Just my personal preference. Quote

reo Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 Thanks for the replies. I will read the owners manual and unless they warn against it I will leave on between moves. Thanks again reo Quote
