Just talking the GY Senko.

Obviously the gold standard for senkos but priced high.  What is your price that you would fill your boat on them (ie. have seen for sale and had to buy them)?

If they could get down to the $5 dollar range I would buy them

I like the Ocho better and I can get them for 2-3 dollars a bag regularly so it has to be in that range.

I have just discovered ocho’s and I like them so far.

They would have to be cheap. When BPS has their Stick-O's on sale, you can get a bag of 30 for 6 bucks. And in my opinion, they work quite well.

This is my exact reasoning too.  Only have fished GY senko shortly before going to the ocho.

Are they as soft as the Senko?

They're close, a tad more durable but not as hard or tough as a BPS Stick O or YUM Dinger. The flat sides give a very nice wobble and flutter on the fall. I think they probably sink just a tick slower than a Senko maybe, but I'm not ever fishing them deep when they're weightless so that's not a big issue.

I'll try them out when my Senko stash runs low.

Dick's used to have great Senko sales, but have no idea if they do now.   Not really a mark down but like buy two bags and get one free.  At least that brought down the total.  In the past I did that so many times I have bags of them hanging on the wall now.

I don’t mind buying Senko at 5 bucks. At least it is good for any new ppl to catch some bass. Me I use everything from dinger to BPS stick worm.

I don’t pay more then like $6 per bag and buy a bunch when I can find them on sale for that. I mostly fish them t-rigged and am happy if I get 3 bass on them, for a $0.20 per fish cost.

The Ochos are good worms as well, especially the 4” ones.

Different baits for different purposes.   For a wacky rigged drop bait I don't think you can beat the action of a senko (well maybe the Reaction Innovation Pocket Rocket or the old Lunker City Spanky)

For tx rigging a stick worm ( or tail weighting it ), the ocho, sticks, dinger, Chompers Salty Sinker, Big Bite Baits makes a stick worm with interesting colors & good action for tx rigging.

When I wacky rig a senko using an 0-ring, I often get several fish out of one bait.

WARNING: Long-Winded ?

Ever since the Senko was introduced, anglers having been looking for an affordable knockoff.

Around 2005, I bought one bag of almost every available stickworm; names like Strike King Zero,

Bass Pro Stik-O, Gambler Ace, Wave Worm Tiki Stick, Yum Dinger, Netbait Salt Lick

and Manns Freefall Worm (I believe this was before the Strike King Ocho).

I had no intentions of comparing those worms based on ‘fishing performance’, because that would take more than one lifetime (not to mention a horde of uncontrollable variables)Instead, I compared them based on their own “natural action” during an unweighted freefall. At that time, I had access to a private wharf on a clearwater canal. From the canal wharf, my wife and I were each rigged up with a different brand of stickworm. We’d plop the worms down simultaneously, about one foot apart, then scrutinize their descent, side-by-side. We’d each vote as to which worm displayed the more seductive wriggle. Tests were repeated as necessary to arrive at a winner. We ran the gamut of comparisons to establish a hierarchy. That day I learned, among many things, that stickworms rarely become active upon splashdown, but only after they descend an appreciable distance.

Long story short, Netbait Salt Lick, Yum Dinger and Mann’s Freefall Worm demonstrated the 'least' body shimmy during an unweighted freefall. Again, this was not a ‘fishing performance’ comparison, but a mechanical comparison of inherent worm action. On days when bass are in a negative temperament, subdued action can be the ticket. Based on this shootout, the wriggling action of the Wave Worm Tiki Stick and Bass Pro Stik-O were middle of the road, while the Senko was still the clear winner. In the final analysis, the only stickworm that rivaled the Senko’s viral renown, was the Gambler Ace. (FYI: Since that shootout, I'm pretty sure the Netbait Salt Lick and Mann’s Freefall Worm have bitten the dust).

This caused me to put the Gambler Ace under the microscope, and I was surprised by what

I learned. The Senko and Ace both have identical length, identical diameter and surface pattern.

Both worms are also heavily salted, but the Senko at 165 grains contains more salt than the Ace

at 141 grains. Due to its small shortfall in salt, the life of an Ace is about 1 more fish, at a price

that's roughly 30% lower. The only visual cue I found that sets them apart is the “GYB” logo

on Senko’s smooth band.

Agreed, they're not quuuite as soft as a senko, but they have that little shimmy on the fall and that's really all that matter to me. The fish seem to like them so I'll stick with the cheaper alternative.

Senkos still rule the day to me. Best thing to do is wait for a sale and stock up. Better to buy on sale in bulk than to pay full price as needed.

Acceptable substitutes include: BPS Stik O, Yum Dingers, 6th Sense Clout and Berkley Max Scent the General.

If I were fishing for $$$$ it would be GY.

For weightless wacky, that is my choice.

once I go over 5 inch Trig, many others can get the call.

When I am bringing a novice guest or kid....4 inch GY wacky and weightless

If your on a tight budget, just buy Yum dingers and a pack of 1/16th oz wacky jig heads and call it day. That combo will perform almost identically to an unweighted GYCB Senko.

7 bucks all day. I try to buy them by the case and get the discount on them down to 6 bucks.

I am sold on an ocho for weightless texas rigging the wobble and price are unbeatable IMO.

However, I wanted to wacky rig more and wanted to know what pricepoint I should look at getting GY senkos at.  I can get them just under $5 but wasn't sure if that was the best deal for them when I look to stock up.

I think I have tried them all and have yet to find a knock off that compares to the original senko but they have gotten pretty expensive so like others I wait for sales.   I have found them at Dicks clearance out for about $5 a bag and with a coupon it brings them down to about $4.  I stocked up last year and bought about 30-40 bags at that price.  They will last me a few years.

The only one I might recommend is the General from Berkley but it's actually about the same when comes to durability.

I'm also in that $5/pack club for stocking up on senkos, and the pro-ocho club with them being a close second favorite for me. Can't lose with either when you find them on sale.

Stik-O.  Bout the only thing I buy from BPS anymore.  I prefer them to the Senkos.  More durable and better shimmy

Other than the OG 5" Senko, what other sizes or variations do you use of GYBC Senko and have you found them to be the same fish catching machines that the 5" is?

The standard Senko doesn't work for me or my style of fishing so don't care how much he charges, not wasting my money on them anyways.

Swim Senko I have done well with at times and found when I tested trailers on swim jigs, they had the wildest tail action. So over the years I have bought them when I found them on sale and stocked up for the 1 lake I fish them on. Refuse to pay full price for them though. Fish these on a slider head, but hope to try them on a swim jig this year.
