Josh Smith Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 ... and I'm OK with that. I've been teaching my 6-year-old, Bella, how to fish for bass instead of sunfish: I found that lefty Quantum Bill Dance thing in my box of reels. It only needed a handle, so I put one on. I'll be danged if she can't use it well. It's hers now. The bass was caught on a Yum crawdad of some sort, rigged up Texas style. Josh 17 Quote
galyonj Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Your little girl caught herself a donkey. Well done. 1 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted June 4, 2020 Super User Posted June 4, 2020 That’s a nice bass! Congrats to her! 1 Quote
Josh Smith Posted June 5, 2020 Author Posted June 5, 2020 I'm still amazed she does best with a baitcaster. I wasn't using one of those until my early teens, when Dad bought himself a Quantum 1310mg and I inherited his Ambassadeur 5000. Josh Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 Nice job Dad!!!! She will remember that for the rest of her life! That smile says it all! 1 Quote
Dminor9 Posted June 6, 2020 Posted June 6, 2020 Great Job! My son-in-law and I have been taking my grandson out with us fishing. He is only 2 1/2. He has his own rod and reel (with a hookless crank bait) and that little tyke can cast like a pro! Whenever either of us hook a fish, we let him reel it in for us. He gets a real (reel) thrill out of it! He isn't ready to hold or touch the fish yet, but he will get there. They are never too young to learn and appreciate fishing. I applaud all parents, relatives and friends who take the time to teach the youngsters the joy of fishing! 2 Quote

Coolangler101263 Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 I have cougt a lot of sunfish this year but I only cought one bass this year Quote
joshuaray83 Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 Large and smallmouth bass are in the sunfish family, so you've technically just caught a lot of sunfish, lol. Quote
Sphynx Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 You keep putting her on fish like that and your gonna have to put a safety leash on her, big ol' bucketmouth looks nearly big enough to pull her in lol, well done, I take my niece's fishing whenever they are in town and they love it, I usually don't get a single fish on those outings but watching them catch fish is just as good or better. Super User islandbass Posted October 22, 2020 Super User Posted October 22, 2020 Great job both of you. I’m getting nostalgic right now. My daughter was about 5 when we started fishing. She was and is a great angler. She learned to use spinning gear at 6 and casting gear at 7. She didn’t fish with me much in the late middle school and high school because of other activities, but we went fishing for the first time in a very long time a few weeks ago. She caught the first fish as usual, and she usually catches something before I finish tying my rig up. We just realized she caught her first largemouth. We’ve always targeted smallies and other species that it is hard to fathom we never targeted LMBs ... as she grew up. WEIRD! She just turned 21 this week. I’m nearly in tears right now, just thinking about. Enjoy the ride with your daughter, my friend. 1 Quote

Get her princess pole now, and Pink tackle box and sunglasses too. I still have my daughter’s princess or Barbie kiddie pole that has caught so many fish. ? 1 Quote
