I got my MB from Tackle Warehouse last fall when they were on discount. Quote
Chet C Posted June 5, 2020 Author Posted June 5, 2020 just found the lews tournament MP at Dicks with a 10% off code does anyone know the difference between the mb and the mp chet Quote
Chet C Posted June 5, 2020 Author Posted June 5, 2020 one more thing, was reading that the new MP has aluminum gears vs the MB has brass gears, Dick's has the MB on sale for 120 any thoughts Quote

I think the MP probably can get away with aluminum gears because of the upgraded and better-supported pinion. Less flexing and movement in the gear system means that you don't have to have as tough a gear. That said, I paid $120 for my MB and would happily do it again. I love that reel. Quote

I'm sure it would seem like it fixes the problem for a while anyway, but too much oil collects dirt and is bad in the long run. You should always clean the bearings and then use 1 drop of oil just exactly where it is needed in that bearing. The gears don't want oil, they need grease and only on the mating surfaces of the teeth. If you squirt oil into that lube port you are very likely to wash all the grease out of the gears where it is needed and deposit it all over into the rest of the reel that shouldn't have it and will gum up the bearings. Meanwhile, the grease is not where it belongs protecting the gears. The drag either uses a very small amount of grease between the discs or needs to be dry. Squirting oil on them is not helpful. Fishing reels need very little in the way of lubrication really, but it is very important to make sure that the inside is kept clean and that small amount of lube needed is always clean and that it is always there. I don't have a set schedule or any hard rules about it, but any of my reels that I use always get a complete cleaning at least once a year and maybe up to once a month on the stuff I use pretty often...or of course whenever I can feel that it is in need of it. 1 Quote

The lube port is there to help drain water if reel is dunked and it gives direct access to gear teeth for a dab of grease. The lube port was never intended to be a substitute for regular maintenance. 2 hours ago, Chet Cognigni said: picked up the MP at dicks today 139.00 this next question could be a touchy topic, but what 20lb braid is a good all around line for this reel fishing and see what kind of distance i get out of it. chet i would use nothing under 50 on a baitcaster. 1 Quote

Digs in to itself a lot more than the thicker line. 50 is like 12 lb diameter and setup right it will cast as far as you ever need it. I never fish less than 50 on baitcasters. 1 Quote

Shimano_1 Posted June 6, 2020 Posted June 6, 2020 Not sure about dicks but most of the price matching applies to brick and mortar stores. You didn't do bad on it tho I'd fish the heck out of it and enjoy! Then if you want another check out sportsman's outfitters Quote
Chet C Posted June 6, 2020 Author Posted June 6, 2020 well this a funny thing that happened today, i ordered a TFO rod from amazon, seller was kingfisher, now the rod i ordered was a 7ft one pc, for the life of me 7ft is 84 inches, the box it cam it was 78 inches, i left kingfisher a message how in the world did they stuff that rod in a 78 inch box and wondered why the tip was broke, dam that puzzles me, you can see where they bent the tip before they taped the box, beware of kingfisher outfitters. chet Quote
