kayaking_kev Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Looking at the Old Town Sportsman 106 Powered by Minn Kota with a 45 lb thrust trolling motor and buying a 100 ah or 120 ah battery for it. I plan on mostly slowly using the trolling motor along the banks, slow enough to be able to fish and occasionally throwing the motor in reverse if needed. I don't plan on using it at full speed for much if at all. I have no experience with trolling motors and was wondering how long would a battery of this size last my for the type of usage I describe. I realize it will likely vary on wind speed and current, but I am looking for a ball park answer on average to get a good idea. Thanks! Quote
Super User RoLo Posted June 4, 2020 Super User Posted June 4, 2020 Hmm, that's a loaded question with many variables. Roger 1 Quote

I think everyone I've seen who actually had the same setup always said they had plenty of life, but I don't know how they use the motor to fish and for that matter how much I would use it. What about at full speed, I thought I saw something like 2.5 hours at full speed, does that sound about right in normal conditions? Quote
Super User RoLo Posted June 4, 2020 Super User Posted June 4, 2020 I'm more of a rifleman than a shotgunner, who relies more on the Talon than the Terrova. Although it's unsung, one of the most important variables is recharging. Plug into your AC recharger as soon as you return home, and the batteries might outlast the boat (i.e. The next purchase) ☺️ Roger Quote

It will depend on a variety of variables such as wind, speed, current, etc. But a 100ah battery for a 45lb trolling motor should get you around 5 hours at a constant running medium speed. 20 hours on low and about 2.5 hours on max speed. This also depends on the type of 100ah battery you are using, lithium vs AGM. Lithium will yield much better results but you are going to pay around 25-40% of the total cost of your entire Sportsman 106 for one of those in the 100ah range. https://www.trollingmotors.net/blogs/selection/86961351-calculating-motor-run-time This link should help you a bit. 2 1 Quote
