Except for some arthritis in my knees and ankles I feel great. I'm definitely younger than my dad was at this age. In spite of the wear and tear on my joints I believe my trade (painting) has kept me functional. My dad retired before he was 60 and just sat. My uncle was a painter, and he lived to 92. Uncle Emil was self-employed, a one man show with an Old Chevy van. He used the exterior panels on his truck to view-test mixed paints. His Chevy van was a multicolored easel on wheels, the only one of its kind 2 Quote
Josh Smith Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 Dude, F society. I'm 42. Every year older I got was marked with either indifference, or accomplishment. If you're doing what you need to do and are happy doing it, then that's all that matters. I started my business in my mid-30s. Got married a little later, and have a couple great kids I spend a lot of time with, as I can make my own hours. I carry a little extra weight that I have to lose, but I overall take care of myself. I do have arthritis in two of my fingers in my non-dominant hand, and a bit in my left jaw. But, if it bothers me at all, I take ibuprofen. It's not a big deal at all. Honestly, the only thing I'm not looking forward to is a colonoscopy. I'm late by a couple years since my dad had colon cancer. That's really the worst part, for me. Overall, I feel as good or better than I did when I was 18. Some things are worse, but most things are better. There's a net gain. Turning 30 is only as bad as you make it. Josh Quote

Josh Smith Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 Yep, Francho. Watched Dad go through it. The other issue is I've gone through my life without ever being knocked out, and the thought makes me nervous. Josh Quote

It's not that terrible - I've undergone a number of surgeries where they've put me under. Just make sure to have someone who can drive you home and have someone there to keep an eye on you for the next day. I've never had an issue, but always better to be safe. 1 Quote

Josh I think the first time I was knocked out I was about 10 years old and headed for the makeshift end zone thinking about my celebration. Next thing I know I’m waking up looking at a root. It’s a lot more pleasant when a doctor does it 2 1 Quote

Super User N Florida Mike Posted June 5, 2020 Super User Posted June 5, 2020 I turn 60 this September. 60 . Where did my life go? Thankful that I still take no medicine. 30? That didnt bother me at all! My advice to you as an older codger is don’t waste your time on lesser things, like unforgiveness, worrying, arguing, and with high living comes high consequences. Been there. Just my 2 cents. Happy Birthday! 2 Quote

Super User Koz Posted June 7, 2020 Super User Posted June 7, 2020 Sorry bud, no sympathy from me. Your 30's should be some of the best years of your life. Still young enough to play sports and not feel like every muscle in your body is burning the next day. If you played your cards right you've got a decent income and career. In your 30's the world is your oyster. You're young enough to do anything but hopefully a bit wiser and more experienced to not do stupid things. I will pass on one piece of advice - if you don't have kids don't wait too long to start a family. I was 42 when my son was born and now that he's a teen he's getting bigger, faster, and stronger while my body is slowing down. I can't keep up with him anymore when we go biking. We're a baseball family and I can't catch for him anymore because I can't handle his fastball and breaking ball anymore. If I had understood how much fun kids were I would have had a family much sooner. One more thing: put something - anything - away in a 401k every paycheck. 1 Quote

DanielG Posted June 7, 2020 Posted June 7, 2020 You just might feel young at heart... wait, from my perspective you are young.... I taught 12-13 yr olds for thirty years. That age often has a definite personality all its own. One thing I've noticed is that I've met some adults that never leave the age of about 15. They live like a 'grab all the gusto you can' Budweiser commercial. It's all well and good but two things usually sober people up. One is marriage and the second is being responsible for the life of a child when you have children. Most live up to those standards to one extent of another. There are a few I've known... the ones who never leave adolescence that don't... their lives, in my observations, don't end up well. Especially if the spouse is an adult who finds that they're married to a perpetual teenager. I'm sure you're not that person but that's what I've seen. Quote

Happy Birthday! So do I. On the 16th. Good month and a good birth year. Being born at the beginning of a decade makes things easy lol. I take a HBP pill daily but that’s it (knock on wood). I feel 60 over 50 way more than I did 50 over 40! 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted June 9, 2020 Super User Posted June 9, 2020 You’re 3 days older than me. I had a high hbp reading, so I put two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons of honey and mix with a small glass of water. I drink it every morning. The headaches and flushed feeling in my face has 95 % gone away. And I largely have quit eating salty snacks. I feel a lot better. Quote

Now...taking Motrin because my arms ache from reeling in bass all day? I can deal with that! 1 Quote
