They basically only paid him for the outboard. He lost about $4-5k on the deal. RIP. My the pontoon float away in boat heaven. Quote
Jaderose Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 99% of the time I fish out of my Bass Raider on a very stumpy 80 acre MDC lake. It's very rare when I am more than 20-30 yards from shore or an area I can stand so I am rarely in too much danger, even if I fell in. One time a few years back I was up in Minnesota and quite aways from my dock or anything else when I noticed clouds rolling in and wind picking up a little. I hesitated a little too long. I started back and got about half way and was in the middle of the lake when all hell broke loose. Just in a little 14 or so ft v-bottom jon boat with a 10 horse OB. No weight in the front. Wind caught the front of the boat and took it what had to be close to vertical before it came back down. Driving rain, lightning, etc. Scared me half to death. I was in one of those positions where everything was equally far away and none of them were good choices. I made it back and decided the next day to maybe do a little site seeing instead of fishing. Whoooooo! 1 Quote

DanielG Posted June 7, 2020 Posted June 7, 2020 This story is on a thread someplace else here... Last year I was about a mile away from my place on the lake. I have an electric boat... trolling speed pretty much. I pulled in about a 1.5 lb bass and when I was unhooking the lure he flipped and one barb stuck me in the belly through my t-shirt. It was stuck good, and he was flopping around so I couldn't get it out no matter how hard I tried. I stood up while taking the slow ride back home. A bass stuck on my belly looking up at me with that big eye. After I got home I managed with pliers to rip it out. Didn't hurt that much either. The fish died. I survived. I never hold a fish close any longer. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted June 7, 2020 Super User Posted June 7, 2020 When I was 17 I was fishing from the bank standing on rip rap. The rock I was standing on turned over and my knee came down on another rock. It never really hurt, but I knew something was wrong because I felt blood running down my leg. I got my T-shirt around my knee and hobbled back over to where the car was. About a 1/2 hour later the bleeding stopped and it didn’t hurt that bad so I fished for about two more hours. When I got home I saw how bad it actually was and my mom flipped. Dad took me down to the ER. I had a dime sized hole in my knee that went down to the kneecap. The perimeter of my kneecap was intact the the center was cracked. The X-ray kind of looked like a broken windshield. They couldn’t do anything for it just told me to rest it. After that I’ve always been very careful fishing off of rip rap. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted June 7, 2020 Super User Posted June 7, 2020 Bad things happen to good people all the time. Most all my 'close calls' revolved around making sure that someone else's deal ending up being 'just a close call'. Most times it worked out. Some times it did not. Stay Safe A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted June 7, 2020 Super User Posted June 7, 2020 In my younger days I bruised my friends knuckles pretty bad with a fish billy. We were on a party boat off of Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn fishing for Bluefish. I caught a nice one and he was thrashing prey bad. My friend was able to pin it and I was going to club it to get the hook out. Well it was called party boat for a reason. We had a cooler full of beer on that trip. By the time I was going to subdue that fish the cooler was empty. I could have sworn my friends hand was that fishes skull... 1 Quote
