Jonas Staggs Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 thought I would share something I have been doing when micro fishing small plastics, and needing them to be weedless. You can use a size 12 or 14 kahle hook and "texas rig" small plastics with it, as the kahle hook has a similar shape and flat line, then use a 1/16th oz bullet weight and you got a micro weedless texas rig. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 2, 2020 Global Moderator Posted June 2, 2020 They make some pretty tiny worm hooks, how small of plastics are you using? 1 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted June 2, 2020 Super User Posted June 2, 2020 I think it might be better of with CB slider Crappie jig. The 1/16oz #1 hook is good for 2.5-4.5” worm. 3 Quote

Small plastics I could rig on 1/64 or 1/32 oz jigs. 1 hour ago, Bass_Fishing_Socal said: I think it might be better of with CB slider Crappie jig. The 1/16oz #1 hook is good for 2.5-4.5” worm. evo2s197 Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 1/16 bullet weight is a little heavy for your micro texas rig, I use 1/32 tungsten bullets it's a better matched weight for small plastics you speak of. Have you tried a micro shaky head? I do extremely well with this setup, makes the "ned rig" obsolete for myself. 7 Quote

I have never heard of micro shakey head. but I am all about throwing smaller lures. I have caught some like maybe 3 lbs on tiny grubs etc. which is bigger bass for me...What type of fish and how big are you catching on that? Quote

I live in California so my target fish is primarily largemouth because that's the dominate species in my area with a few spots and smallies mixed in if I fish lakes that have them. I pull out the micro shaky head if it's a tough bite, or I go really big, one extreme or the other works if the bite is tough. I've caught bass up to 6 lbs on that micro shaky head but the average is around 2 lbs. 2 Quote

That looks like it would be killer on some local rivers I fish. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 3, 2020 Super User Posted June 3, 2020 Don Iovino Tiny Meanes with size 1 worm hook and 1/16 oz bullet weight dates back into the 80's or 30 years. Tom 1 Quote

I get most my fishing gear from walmart, but I can only find ML or UL, no Light rods. Quote

Super User WRB Posted June 3, 2020 Super User Posted June 3, 2020 Light/1 power rod needs to have 4# line that is compatible to the hook wire diameter and a very sharp hook, it's a system that works together with tiny t-rigged worms. You can go smaller using skinny trout plastic worms. Tom 4 Quote

Ogandrews Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Owner makes a pretty good tiny weedless jig, can’t remember what it’s called but it has a dangerously sharp hook. I’ve used it to throw little trout plastics around wood and rocks when I’m fishing for se Minnesota’s wild browns in the winter. One of my favorite plastics for that is a 3” jackal crosstail Shad, or half of a strike king dream shot. edit- found it, comes in a football head too 1 Quote

Or the Decoy Decibo VJ-36 with a #2 hook. 1 Quote

The Nail Bombs also have more length between the weight and the bend, which can dramatically improve the life for some plastics. I think the ones pictured are 1/0 hooks, but they might be the #1 ones, I can't remember when I switched. 1 Quote

For weedless ewg jig head, I can only find Charlie brewer slider head in 1/32 oz All the other jig heads I can find with ewg hook smallest size is 1/16th oz. Quote
