Charlie Darr Posted June 1, 2020 Posted June 1, 2020 I’m interested in building a 9’ mh two piece spinning rod for stripers. I normally use a fish finder rig from a dock or shore, but on occasion I feed live eels or pin fish under a bridge using the live liner. So the rod tip is either straight up or down. Ideally I would like the tip to be light enough so when the fish starts biting it won’t feel the initial pull from the rod tip before the bait runner takes off. Any suggestions are welcome if I need two rods I don’t mind building two Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 1, 2020 Super User Posted June 1, 2020 Any heavy power/ fast or moderate tip will work fine. Quote
Charlie Darr Posted June 2, 2020 Author Posted June 2, 2020 I’m new to rod building thank you for the information. Seems like it’s just trial and error. I haven’t found a built rod that does what I want. It’s a little difficult to explain. On days where they aren’t just snatching the bait and running it seems they bite at it and as soon as they feel that rod tip they just leave it alone. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted June 2, 2020 Super User Posted June 2, 2020 I would think the MHX surf blanks at Mudhole would be options worth checkinq out. Quote
Super User Teal Posted June 3, 2020 Super User Posted June 3, 2020 I know nothing about rod building. I'm sure you can reach out to @.ghoti. or @Delaware Valley Tackle. Both of these guys are regulars here and both are good rod builders. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 Maybe a popping blank will work well. Likely have to extend to the length you want though. They’re soft tipped but with backbone. 1 Quote
