DFWbassin Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 If anyone has experience with this please let me know how they do it. I dont want to order a rod and have it arrive broken because of bad packaging. -ryan Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted May 31, 2020 Super User Posted May 31, 2020 I had one shipped that I picked up at the store and it was in a thick cardboard tube. Imagine it'd be the same if sent to your porch. 2 1 Quote
ghost123123 Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 Shipped in a long circular cardboard tube, I had no issues, have received two rods on separate occasions and both arrived safely. Hope this helps with the information you are seeking. 1 Quote
Bassin' Brad Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 I've bought one before from them and it shipped in a cardboard tube like was already mentioned. 1 Quote
Super User Scott F Posted May 31, 2020 Super User Posted May 31, 2020 I order several rods a year from Cabela’s and they all come in stiff, cardboard tubes. Combos however have been shipped in more flexible, cardboard boxes. None of them have ever arrived damaged. 1 Quote
nascar2428 Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 Selling and shipping fishing gear is one of their specialties. Not much to worry about here. 1 Quote
fluna Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 Have bought multiple rods from Cabelas and like thay say, thick cardboard tube. Rod is in a plastic bag. 1 Quote
Gazz Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 When I got my full combo from them it came in a big, thick and solid tube. It was also wrapped in bubble wrap inside. 1 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted May 31, 2020 Super User Posted May 31, 2020 I've got a couple. They come in a rod tube, packed similar to other rods I've received. Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted June 1, 2020 Super User Posted June 1, 2020 @DFWbassin, as others a mentioned your rod should arrive in something like this. I don’t think you have too much to worry about other than when you’ll be able to fish it. 1 1 Quote
shootermcbob Posted June 1, 2020 Posted June 1, 2020 I just received a new rod on thursday this past week. Cabelas does a fine job ...thick cardboard tube outside, rod in plastic bag with tip protected with bubble wrap. 1 Quote
tlj96 Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Just had to return a rod to Cabelas because the bottom guide was bent and the epoxy was cracked at the base. It was packed well, but too tightly so must've happened when they were putting the rod into the tube... Quote
Super User Bankc Posted January 29, 2021 Super User Posted January 29, 2021 A few weeks ago they sent me a rod in a triangular box that arrived, broken down the middle. I bought a reel and spool of line with it, so that's probably why it didn't come in the tube. Looking at it, I thought for sure that the rod was broken. I don't know how it's possible, but somehow it seems to have survived just fine. I've fished it a couple of times now and no issues. They didn't pack it well and the carrier didn't treat it we'll, but all's well that ends well, I suppose. Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted January 29, 2021 Super User Posted January 29, 2021 I had a rod arrive in a sched. 40 PVC tube ....... which had a huge dent right in the middle. Obviously someone didn't care whether it got to its destination in good shape or not. So ....... it makes no difference how well a rod is packed. What makes a difference is how it's handled. The store has no control over that. jj 2 Quote

They've been shipping rods for decades. I would imagine they've got it figured out by this point. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 30, 2021 Super User Posted January 30, 2021 I ordered a rod from them about a month ago and it came directly from St. Croix. It was packed well and had no issues. Quote

It depends on how it’s handled in between that makes a difference. As long as it’s packaged well from the beginning which most reputable businesses/companies who know how delicate fishing gear can be will take care of from the get go. 1 Quote
