If anyone has experience with this please let me know how they do it. I dont want to order a rod and have it arrive broken because of bad packaging.

Shipped in a long circular cardboard tube, I had no issues, have received two rods on separate occasions and both arrived safely. Hope this helps with the information you are seeking.

I order several rods a year from Cabela’s and they all come in stiff, cardboard tubes. Combos however have been shipped in more flexible, cardboard boxes. None of them have ever arrived damaged.

Selling and shipping fishing gear is one of their specialties. Not much to worry about here.

When I got my full combo from them it came in a big, thick and solid tube. It was also wrapped in bubble wrap inside.

I've got a couple. They come in a rod tube, packed similar to other rods I've received.

@DFWbassin, as others a mentioned your rod should arrive in something like this. I don’t think you have too much to worry about other than when you’ll be able to fish it.

I just received a new rod on thursday this past week. Cabelas does a fine job ...thick cardboard tube outside, rod in plastic bag with tip protected with bubble wrap.

Just had to return a rod to Cabelas because the bottom guide was bent and the epoxy was cracked at the base. It was packed well, but too tightly so must've happened when they were putting the rod into the tube...

A few weeks ago they sent me a rod in a triangular box that arrived, broken down the middle.  I bought a reel and spool of line with it, so that's probably why it didn't come in the tube.  Looking at it, I thought for sure that the rod was broken.  I don't know how it's possible, but somehow it seems to have survived just fine.  I've fished it a couple of times now and no issues.  They didn't pack it well and the carrier didn't treat it we'll, but all's well that ends well, I suppose.

I had a rod arrive in a sched. 40 PVC tube ....... which had a huge dent right in the middle. Obviously someone didn't care whether it got to its destination in good shape or not.

So ....... it makes no difference how well a rod is packed. What makes a difference is how it's handled. The store has no control over that.         jj

This.

They've been shipping rods for decades. I would imagine they've got it figured out by this point.

I’ll second this... have bought rods from Amazon (independent tackle shops) shipped to me and Dicks sporting goods shipped to the house. It depends on how it’s handled in between that makes a difference. As long as it’s packaged well from the beginning which most reputable businesses/companies who know how delicate fishing gear can be will take care of from the get go.
