Super User BrianMDTX Posted May 30, 2020 Super User Posted May 30, 2020 Today was a bit slow. Nothing on a topwater frog, and tried a “weedless” lol jig that pulled up 15 lbs of muck. Had two good strikes on a Texas rig 5” Senko but lost both when the bass jumped. This was my first time using a Gamakatsu 3/0 standard offset shank with round bend hook. Don’t know if I just didn’t drive the hook home good enough or that it’s not a worm hook with an offset point. Or 3/0 is too big for a 5” Senko. Switched over to a 5” Senko wacky-style on a 1/0 circle hook with O ring. Caught two bass (once again, right after the cast). One was only 11”, but the other was 17-1/2” and 2.68 lbs. All-in-all, a good day. 7 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted May 31, 2020 Author Super User Posted May 31, 2020 I forgot to update this thread yesterday. Went home, did chores, clock showed 5:30 pm, so I decided to head back to the pond for an hour or so. Caught a small bass on a wacky Senko, then lost it and the hook in a snag. Dug down in the tackle box and Texas rigged a 40-45 year old plastic worm. Caught this bass just before I called it a day. 17-1/2” and 2.72 lbs. 3 Quote

I usually go 4/0 or 5/0 but I use hand pour imitation stick worms that float without a hook Quote

It’s the first worm hook I’ve used without an offset point on a Texas rig. Not sure, may just have been coincidence. Quote
Super User Teal Posted June 2, 2020 Super User Posted June 2, 2020 I typically go 4/0 on senko... but that's personal preference... my 10 year rigs his with a 3/0 all them and doesnt have.much trouble if he detects the bite on time and doesnt get so excited that he forgets to set the hook. Quote
