Good Evening Fishing Friends,

I was curious if any truck owners have full bedcaps on their trucks and their rods are longer than bed length with tailgate down. Meaning the rod tip hangs over the edge of the tailgate. Further, they can't lay them rods in the bed with the tailgate up because the bedcap would impede. All my rods are one piece obviously.

What solutions could I employ that have worked for you or think would work? The only solution I came up with without purchasing anything more would be to create a bungee web to snap my reels into the web to hold them in place and have the tips stick out a little over the end of the tailgate.

I'm not 100% sold on the bedcap yet but if I do install it I'm not against spending a little money to create something for my rods on bank fishing trips.

Thanks,

T

Measure the inside diagonal of your truck bed. Rods don't need to lay in there straight. Make a cushion box out of Styrofoam, shaped to the diagonal. A six foot bed that is 4 feet wide has a diagonal of 7 feet, 2and a half inches. Longer bed, longer diagonal.        jj

Noted, I will measure it.

I specifically bought a truck with the 6.5 foot bed so my 7’ rods will fit inside hanging from a rod rack inside the cap. It’s a little hard to see, black carpet lining the cap and a black bed rug.

Where did you get those rod racks? I could get some use out of those not only in this scenario but in my shed.

Went today, but only 45 minutes, above Lock and Dam 19. Caught a 20" walleye, but no bass. Ol' Man River is always changing, and always interesting.         jj

Diagonal on a 6.5’ bed should fit a 7.5’ rod no problem. If you have one of the teeny super short bed 1/2 tons, get a rack on the camper and U-bolt on rod tubes on the rack. You can fit a fully strung fly rod in one.
