Michigander Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 The last week or two, the carp seem to be everywhere. Do they spawn around this time of year or something? They're schooling and jumping all over the place. 1 Quote
Russ E Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 They are spawning here. Raising quite a commotion in the shallows. Not sure what their spawning rituals are, but it seems pretty violent. 1 1 Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted May 30, 2020 BassResource.com Administrator Posted May 30, 2020 Yes, it's spawn time for carp when the water temps hit the mid-60's 1 1 Quote
Throwafrog Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 I think I remember hearing somewhere that the fish jump to loosen their ggs 1 Quote

Yeah, they seem pretty frisky right now and it seems to be freaking out the bass around here. 3 minutes ago, Glenn said: Yes, it's spawn time for carp when the water temps hit the mid-60's Do you know what bass do during this "event"? It seems like the bite shuts down when it's time to make baby carp. 2 Quote

Cdn Angler Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 Saw tons of them here in Ontario and all in shallow. 1 Quote

Michigander Posted May 30, 2020 Author Posted May 30, 2020 So do the bass take off when the carp are getting X-rated in the shallows? Or do they just ignore the loud neighbors? Quote

Super User Bird Posted May 30, 2020 Super User Posted May 30, 2020 The carp muddy up the shallows, still catching bass with spinnerbaits though. Gotta believe the bass don't pay much attention to them. 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 30, 2020 Super User Posted May 30, 2020 In a few weeks the eggs will hatch and the bass will target the schools of carp fry 1 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted May 30, 2020 Global Moderator Posted May 30, 2020 Bass Almost always jump more thaN once in rapid succession when schooling on Shad. If it only jumps once, typically not a bass Quote

Super User WRB Posted May 30, 2020 Super User Posted May 30, 2020 Several fish species spawn when the water temps in the area are 65-75 degrees. Carp are egg eaters and could be raiding bass or bluegill beds or spawning or both. Tom 1 Quote

One of the bigger ones I ever caught I was trying to snag a carp with a fat Albert and the bass grabbed it out of nowhere 1 Quote

If I would have known that fish prefer to eat hooks, I could have saved a few thousand dollars in tackle... 2 Quote

Super User FryDog62 Posted May 30, 2020 Super User Posted May 30, 2020 We’re further behind here in Minnesota, but 2 weeks ago the carp were moving in packs all over the lake I was on. I turned on my Livescope and for about 10 seconds thought I was going to hit the mother load of all bass fishing before I realized what they were... Caught 2 small largemouth that entire morning..
