First time this has happened.

Was fishing a remote river location that requires a 2 mile traverse down river to fish it, do it twice a year because hardly any pressure and LM are abundant. 

 

Requires 2 batteries fighting current on way back.

 

Was throwing a spinnerbait and catching Smallmouth on the way down, using a new rod.

 

Get down to the big water and lose 3 very nice LM in a row, couldn't believe it.

They all jumped and spit the hook.

 

Been throwing spinnerbaits for over 40 yrs and rarely lose a fish.

 

My new Rod is a 6'10 MH moderate F Lews tournament TP1.

Has a great feel and was going to dedicate it as a spinnerbait rod because I throw them year around. 

 

Perhaps a little less drag with straight 20# braid, don't know as these fish were taking line and KVD baits with razor hooks. 

 

Lose another fish I'm going with a 10ft medium action. Lol

I haven't quite got on board with the "long rod" trend. They don't fit in my truck or in my boat. LOL

Just one of them things that happens. And after catching some other big fish the hook may have been getting dull. I had that same year last year with buzzbaits. One of my typical go to baits and all I did was loose pig after pig last year on one. Literally could not boat a big bite on a buzz. Just one of them things

moderate action rods, longer distances and large single hooks is a recipe for failure.

Me neither. 7’ is about my limit. I dont like less than 6.6 either.

Same here, all my rods are either 6'6" or 7". Bought a 7'6" and couldn't  sell it fast enough.

Don't feel bad, i lost two fish today back to back.  I would feel better if they threw the hook.  Mine broke me off.  I was punching/flipping into holes of hydrilla with 7'6 Heavy rod, 1/2oz rage bug.   I had a leader on, cuz there were large  areas  I was flipping to where the hydrilla was sparse in between the spans of hydrilla.   First time, i had fish on, half way back to boat he dove deep into the slop..bam broke...second time, it popped on the hook set.   That was 10 mins apart.   I cut the entire leader off, and tied straight to the braid.   I caught 5 more back to back no issues on that.rod...I'm guessing my.leader was garbage.

 

As for yours, idk, but.I  dont like a MF for spinnerbaits.   Extra fast action for.mine.   50 lb braid with 12lb sniper.
