If you were in Central Park's The Lake, or either of the two Turtle Ponds I would be very concerned that he would shoot at you. Otherwise, I don't see anything you did incorrectly.

 

Now after his verbal reply you could have done some wheelies with your big motor before tooling off and really given him a big ride.

There is the issue right there. Some people were not raised with ethics. I find common sense to be in short supply as well.

I get asked “Did you catch anything” while bank fishing more times than I can count. The first few times are fine but after awhile it becomes annoying.

So you would just go out of your way to make trouble for a person who's minding their own business trying to do some fishing? Why?
