Hole in boat.. how screwed am i

Does Gorilla Tape actually stick to and stay stuck to PE? My transducer is mounted on a suction cup to use between both of my boats. The textured surface of my new Sundolphin 8.5 wont hold the suction cup for long. If I can just put a couple of strips of Gorilla tape on it that will give me a smooth surface to mount to.

No.

You can carefully sand a spot removing the bumps until it's smooth then apply a few coats of 3M DP270 epoxy for smooth surface for the suction cup.

Bingo. Plastic welder and a 5 gallon bucket. Any plastic that has a triangle with the number 2 inside it. Home Depot buckets for example fit the bill. I think milk jugs do too. Shoot it with some spray paint that’s useable in water to match.

Actually this kit comes with plastic rods that you melt. I’d imagine that using plastic from a bucket or a milk jug would work better for big holes than using the metal screen that comes with the kit.

Are the rods with the kit HDPE or will they bond to HDPE? Everything I've seen on kayak forums says buy the kit and throw the rods away. They always say to look for something plastic that has the triangle with the #2 in it.

So I ready many many years ago I think in the manual that to fix a hole in a crawdad you melt a milk jug and fill the hole with the plastic from that.

There should be a hook there. I just got rid of a boat that looked just like that and it had a hook there. I would try to put a new hook in there with some silicone to keep water out. It should sit above the water line on the water.  If I were gonna fill it I'd use marine tex. Good luck

Put a couple of threaded plugs in there. Unless the holes are huge. Can’t tell from pics.

I would include fiberglass cloth in any repair scenario.  I repaired our swimming pool steps with glass cloth and epoxy probably 30 years ago.  It has discolored, but still does not leak.  The glass cloth will give whatever bondo or resin you use a lot more strength.

Epoxy with fiberglass tape over the hole to reinforce it would be my first try.

Thats exactly what I was thinking.  Its for the winch eyelet.  Put one in it and seal it up with a good marine sealant.
