KeepinItReel Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 I recently had a Lowrance Ghost trolling motor installed by a local shop. When I am using it the arrows seems to jump around quite a bit, it is not smooth. It does not seem like the motor itself is doing this, just the arrow. I was wondering if anyone else owns a Lowrance Ghost and can give me their opinion. Based on the videos I have seen it seems like there is something wrong with mine. This is also my first large Lowrance purchase along with a couple HDS Live units. I did not purchase them from the installer. Will Lowrance support help in resolving the issue seeing as I just purchased it a few months ago and got it installed a few weeks ago? I will try to get a video soon and upload (or a link) if able to on this forum. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 27, 2020 Super User Posted May 27, 2020 I'm not familiar with your sonar unit, but you might begin by confirming that it's loaded with the latest software version. It's not uncommon to buy a new accessory with outdated coding (Been there more than once). Roger 1 Quote

They are linked and all of that seems to work fine. I also have the controller and it works fine as well. 1 Quote

Mine has been doing something weird here lately too that i'm not 100% what the problem is yet but I'll be getting on the phone with lowrance too. It'll kinda make a little stutter noise then the prop won't go when i hit the accelerator. I have to reset it then it works completely fine, until it decides to do it again. Never actually loses power as the unit is still on and the arrow moves, just loses power to the prop 1 Quote

We only went tubing but I put the Ghost motor down and calibrated it again. I noticed the blue arrow does not even point the direction of the motor when looking in the water. It's off by at least an inch. The blue arrow jumps quickly when moving motor left and right, not smooth at all. At some points it seems to get stuck for a split second and then jumps left or right faster. Hard to explain. It came this way and I am now thinking the top blue arrow mechanism is defective. I watched some videos and it seems to move smoothly when turning on those videos. Does your blue arrow jump around? I will be calling Lowrance sometime this week or early next week. I will keep this post updated. Let me know what you find out in case I have anymore issues. Quote

The only time i had issues with the arrow was the first time i put it in the water and had not yet calibrated the bow mount offset. I would definitely give them a call, no reason a 3k unit should have ANY issues 1 Quote
looking45 Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 Lowrance is to tell you to take it to an authorized Ghost repair shop. They will tell you a list of nearby shops. They've "trained" a bunch of people to work on the motors. The problem is there might not be an authorized repair shop close to you. In that case, you will have to ship it. Hopefully you can get Lowrance to pay for shipping as it won't be cheap. Good luck, and let us know the outcome 1 Quote

I have been swamped with work and have not gotten around to contacting them. I plan on doing that early next week. Do you know if there is a time period the warranty is good for? Quote

FishingFan Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 KeepinItReel: I have the exact same problem you described on my ghost. Had it 5 months no problem with many uses and now doing exactly what you mention. Updated software and no change. Any update on outcome? Quote
Whodatt99 Posted August 15, 2021 Posted August 15, 2021 To KeepinItReal: Your REAL problem on Ghost arrow: I had same problem, you turn the motor slowly with foot pedal and arrow on top of motor head is jerky or sticky. To fix - Pry the round arrow cap off the top of motor using 1 or 2 flathead screwdrivers. Now you see a small 1/2 inch diameter round disc sitting on top of a 3 inch disc. Your small disc is probably not perfectly centered on the bigger disc or there is too much glue on or around it. Call Lowrance and ask them to send you a new disc. Remove old disc and remove all glue with isopropyl alcohol and Qtip. Install new disc with peal and stick making sure it is dead center. Quote
Sean Moore Posted December 14, 2021 Posted December 14, 2021 Hello, just came across this thread looking for something else. I had the same problem with mine. I popped the blue cap off, took a couple of drops of reel magic and dropped it down in the slot where the blue cap clip rides in the track. Buttery smooth now, haven't had a problem with it did it about a year ago. I would imagine I might have to do it again after a rain, so far I haven't. Hope this helps, tight lines! Quote

Super User WRB Posted June 3, 2022 Super User Posted June 3, 2022 The GPS puck needs to be placed correctly to prevent magnetic north orientation causing the unit to circle randomly. Contact Lowrance. Tom Quote
