This year I've started experimenting cranking with copoly.  Results so far are positive and it's easy on the wallet.  Using 10# and 12# yo-zuri hybrid.  Previously 12-15# seaguar red label.

I tried a couple different FCs including Red Label and Invixz - wasn't impressed. After trying Yo-Zuri, I've completely gone away from FC and use 12# on my cranking rig, my spin/buzz/chatter rig and as leader on my two braid rigs. I'm also tossing 10# YZH on my spinning-crank rig and 4# on my UL rig.

You wanna gift me some better FC than I've tried and I'll give it a shot, but for now, it's YZH all the way.

Not to hijack the thread but does anyone know if theres a difference between flourocarbon line and specific flourocarbon leader material?  I vaguely remember someone telling me they're not exactly the same thing but I don't remember the details.

Your're Go-to Fluorocarbon

Ain't got any    :Idontknow:

100% Berkley Trilene, P-Line regular fluoro, P-Line Tactical, Seaguar Invisix, Seaguar Red Label:  all of these were fine and did the trick on baitcasters.

For spinning gear I have used P-Line regular fluorocarbon in 8 lb and that has been my standard line and it is excellent.  I started using Gamma Touch in 7 lbs a couple seasons ago and that is GREAT line.  Very strong and abrasion-resistant.  I highly recommend it.

Invizx 12lb for T rigged soft plastic

Tatsu 10lb for jerkbaits and weightless soft plastic

Trilene 100% FC 6lb for spinning gear

And totally sold on Sunline Defier for crankbaits.  Fantastic line.

Thanks! I have noticed that tuning my baitcasters for fluorocarbon is harder to do than it is for braid. It took me almost a half hour of nothing but backlashing every-to almost every other cast until I finally hit the sweet spot and got it perfect.

Power-Pro, Sufix, Jbraid...even spider wire braid tunes nearly instantly compared to fluorocarbon lol wow I gotta get used to it.

If you’re looking for something different, Yo-Zuri Topknot has been good for me. Seriously, no complaints at all and the great  abrasion resistance has been the most impressive so far. I fish a rocky river and it’s held up better than I expected. Im sure higher end line like Tatsu or Shooter work better in terms of manageability and cast-ability though.

I don’t know this as a fact as I use regular mainline fluoro for leaders but I’ve heard the leader material is much wiry and stiff. That makes sense since it’s not designed to be actually spooled onto a reel.

I use Berkley Vanish

 gasp GIF

It's easily available at Walmart. It's relatively cheap as far as Fluorocarbon goes. The 12lb 110 yard pony spool fills my baitcaster perfectly.

I have not had any issues with the line. I will eventually get around to using other stuff recommended here when I can get a good sale.

Leader material is much harder (stiffer), it would be impossible to spool and cast with a reel.

Berkley Vanish is well known as being just about the worst line on the market and imo is responsible for half of the bad name fluorocarbon gets with many people. My experience with Vanish is that it is very appropriately named and it does just what it says everytime you drag it along a rock, weed, stump or just breathe on it. It literally has no abrasion resistance at all. Add in some pretty bad memory issues and well below its rated line strength and you complete the trifecta. I can't believe Berkley still makes this line, generally their products are good.

Unfortunately, P-Line fluoroclear is not much better from my experience. It did not seem to have any issues with line strength or poor abrasion resistance as far as I could tell, but I put it on my son's reel once and the memory issues were just horrible! I went home and replaced it with some YoZuri hybrid which he has not had an issue with to this day.

I have been using Berkley Trilene Fluorocarbon for the past few years, with minimal problems. It generally holds up pretty well through abrasion and with a uni knot, knot strength has been quite excellent as has the line strength. I buy what I need for the season plus some extras on BPS/Cabela's spring sale each year where it's buy one get one free (this year Cabela's just had it half off). 2/3 of my reels still have the line from last year without any major issues, and the one that does not had taken some pretty bad abuse around rocks at the end of the year last year and I was changing it from 12lb to 10lb for this year anyway.

The Red Label is the entry level Seaguar offering, but it's much better than Vanish. InvisX and AbrazZ are pretty good, and Tatsu if you can afford it.

My local Walmart was cleaned out of fishing line for the last two weeks. Since I had to go online to order fishing line I decided to purchase 10# Yo-Zuri Hybrid.

Don't forget the KVD - trust me, you'll want it. Without it, YZH is as bad as FC (IMO), with it, it's much better - even KVD couldn't get me to keep with FC.

I buy Kastking Superpower Braid off of the Kastking EBay store in 150 yard spools. That’s about as close to a pony spool as I can get.
