As per Covid 19, my local Walmart is still wiped out of nearly all types of fluorocarbon in nearly all weights. I did manage to snag one spool of Berkley Vanish in 12lb and one spool of P-Line Fluroclear(I think it was called) in the same 12lb weight a couple weeks ago. This is my first go’round with fluorocarbon so I’m not very well versed in what brands are good to go.

I’ve had a lot of trouble with both of my bait casters getting tuned since I put those lines on them and I’ve been getting backlashes so bad that I’m ready to go back to braid. Anyway I think it’s mostly due to the Weight of the line being 12lb? I’m not sure.

Ive read a lot of reviews online trying to get familiar with what brands seem to be really good and Seaguar as well as the Berkley Trilene Are always on top. What do you recommend?

edit: what weight line do you recommend with T-Rigs And crankbaits being the primary tie ons?

Years ago Berkley Vanish was a nightmare on spinning gear, marginally better on casting.

Fast forward.....you couldn't pry my fingers from a spool of Sunline sniper.

Yeah the Berkley vanish even before covid 19 was always in stock year around here so I can imagine it wasn’t very hot in the market.

I have been using Sunline sniper for a long time.  It's good line.  I've recently spooled a couple reels with assassin, it was on sale.  It's pretty good, I'll stick with sniper tho. It.has little memory out of the box, but it does settle in pretty.quick.    I could be fine with sniper, but.my.next re up, I'm going to give Seagar Tatsu a fair shake.

Most of my setups are braid with floro leader.  However my.crankbait rods boat have floro and.I carry a couple all purpose, or pretty much a duplicate of the same rods, with just floro.  16lb sniper on 7'2 mh squarebill rod. 12 lb sunline assassin on 7'7 M cranking rod. Powell 723 rod for t rigs and pretty much anything, 12 lb Assassin.  Powell 714 jig rod, 16lb sniper.

Now that's what I use.  I like that stuff, but there's good stuff out there...Like I said, I'm gonna give.tatsu a try.   Pline tactical is.supposed to be great.   I know some darn good fishermen that.swear by it.   I also don't think you can go.wrong with Seagar invizx.  I'm not.super brand loyal.   What ever you pick, use kvd line ans.lure.conditioner

I know this isn’t what you asked but if you haven’t already give braid to a leader a fair shot on casting gear, it is all I will use. Unbeatable sensitivity and once your used to casting I you’ll get better distance. I use powerpro maxcuatro on all of my casting rods and it is the best braid I have ever tried. Generally I’ll use a mono leader, but floro has its specific uses.

Another vote for seaguar.

To the OP: get the vanish line off your real. If you ever wonder why they call it vanish, you don’t want to learn with a fish of a lifetime on it because it will vanish.

I’ve nicknamed that line “poof”. Maybe they improved it but I would rather not fish than use vanish.

Sunline Shooter or Sniper depending on what I’m doing.

The only  flourocarbon line I have seen at Wal-Mart was vanish and spiderwire. They are both poor quality in my opinion.

My go to is sunline. Usually sniper, but I have been trying assassin lately with good results.

Well, you found two of the worst lines on the market...

If the price is not a concern, Tatsu is THE BOMB!

I use p-line flouro clear a lot on my cranking rod and spinner bait rod.  But, it’s not 100% flouro carbon it’s actually a flouro coated co polymer.  I like pline flouro clear a lot for cranks and other moving baits.  Price is good avg about $10

I also just bought some kast king 20 lbs flouro clear which is also a flouro co-polymer.  I originally bought it for leaders but, spooled it up on my swim bait/ loaner rod.  So far in the one time I’ve used it I had 20 incher spit the hook at the boat and landed a fat 16 incher throwing swim jigs.  I just want to see how it holds up over time before I’m totally on the band wagon  Price I think was $9.99

On my 7ft m/l colt I have segar red label spooled up. It works but, I just killed a spool of it.  I only put 60-70 yards on at a time.  So I will be looking another 100% fluorocarbon line here soon For ned rigs and other finesse stuff.  When I buy new 100% flouro next time I may try tatsu or somthing more $$$ I figure I’ll save money buy not blowing through spool after spool.  I’ve tried red label on bait casters and spinning rigs but, I get a lot of wind knots after so long

vanish is garbage to put nicely I’d only use that for leaders and not main line.

I have been using Sunline Sniper for years and see no need to change. Only problem with Sunline, I can't get it local but I buy all the line I am going to need for a year on Black Friday. If I wanted something I could get local, I would probably try Seagar.

Depending on the type of cover & how heavy it is. For worms, etc. I use several. From Sunline, Shooter, from Seaguar Tatsu. Excellent lines buy pricey. From Sunline, Sniper, From Seaguar Invinx. Very good lines at a mid range price. For a $10 to $15  price range  I use use Gamma Copolymer when I want a little more stretch. Remember fluorocarbon tends to sink so when fishing a crank bait it will run a little deeper than the bait is designed for. so for crankbaits I use Sunline Defier. Excellent line but pricey.  My 2nd choice would Gamma Copolymer as it has enough stretch to keep the fish buttoned when it surges.

I started out in the Sunline shooter camp with Sniper and Assassin for a couple of years. I tried and went to Seaguar about a year ago.  I really like Tatsu and the Invisx.

Agreed on Tatsu. If you go braid to leader like I do on everything, the cost is minimal using a leader length at a time.

Save your money

Not overrated, just expensive.

For spinning tackle, give InvizX a try.

Baitcasting, AbrazX.

I like them both!

This year I've started experimenting cranking with copoly.  Results so far are positive and it's easy on the wallet.  Using 10# and 12# yo-zuri hybrid.  Previously 12-15# seaguar red label.

Lots of good fluoros out there.  I throw 17# invixz on my jig rod and use the 20# sunline FC leader for pitching with braid.

Once you get the backlash situation under control, take some time to practice your knots.  Seems like a lot of fluoro issues are not the result of bad line, but a poor knot.  (Living proof, here).

I use Shooter on my heavier jig rod and Tatsu on my spinning rod. Aside from those two specific ,it's a mix of invisx, sniper, or assassin; whichever I get the best deal on.
