Super User ChrisD46 Posted May 26, 2020 Super User Posted May 26, 2020 I see a sale on line showing Whopper Plopper 130 size on sale for $12.74 ea. ... I currently have the Whopper Plopper in 110 I use in various colors for LMB and Spotted Bass - but was thinking of adding the Whopper Plopper 130 size in Bone & Loon colors just to have / try ... *What has been your preference / differences between the Whopper Plopper 110 vs. the 130 sizes ? ... Thanks in advance ! Quote
looking45 Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 I use the 130 and catch lots of spotted bass on it. My go to color is "I Know It" Quote
Born 2 fish Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 I have a few I catch more on the 90 and 110 so I don’t use the 130s often. Quote
Heartland Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 I have a bunch of the 130 size and enjoy fishing with them. My buddies fish mostly with the smaller version and do well. All said I do not see a significant difference in numbers either way. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 26, 2020 Global Moderator Posted May 26, 2020 I have several 130s. My first several fish on them were actually smallmouth. I like them more when targeting largemouth but smallies and spots have no issues with them. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted May 26, 2020 Global Moderator Posted May 26, 2020 I have only a 130. Wouldn’t recommend it haha. Had it 1.5 years and got one bite that I didn’t hook Quote
Super User Teal Posted May 26, 2020 Super User Posted May 26, 2020 If they are on sale get em! They work. And if you dont get bit, mail them to me 1 1 Quote
craww Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Pretty much the only one I use...I like the weight & ability to aggressively power fish it long distances in river currents. Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted May 27, 2020 Super User Posted May 27, 2020 I fish the 75 to 190. The WP size I fish on any trip is determined by the size of the body of water. In ponds I throw the 75 & 110, on lakes the 110 & 130. The 190 is for night LM trips only. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted May 27, 2020 Author Super User Posted May 27, 2020 I appreciate the replies - I will ad that not only was I interested in the WP 130 size for LMB and Spotted Bass - the reservoirs I fish also have Striped Bass with large , wide open areas where I thought a WP 130 could be bombed out a long distance and cover a lot of water . As for color , I was thinking of getting a WP 130 in Bone color first as it may possibly be the best all - around color , then maybe a translucent color - not sure if I need a Black (Loon) color or not in the WP 130 size ? Super User Teal Posted May 27, 2020 Super User Posted May 27, 2020 No exchange necessary. I'll even waive the fishing lure adoption fee, re homing fee, and storage fee.?? On a serious note, if he gets a 130 he doesnt like it and feels bad about spending 13 bucks on it, as long as it not damaged I'll surely buy it. Those things are worth every penny. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted May 27, 2020 Super User Posted May 27, 2020 I've been happy with my 90s actually. Bass and Pike seem to both love them. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted May 28, 2020 Author Super User Posted May 28, 2020 *After further review , I believe the WP 110 & smaller 75 sizes may be the better option for me and my equipment ... I am especially curious about the new , smaller WP 75 size now ! Quote
Super User Teal Posted May 28, 2020 Super User Posted May 28, 2020 The 110 is a killer! It think it is the perfect size to catch a good range of fish. Good luck on it Chris. MUNKY BUTT color has actually been my best producer. Loon, and perch have also caught plenty of fish. Quote
Primus Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 I prefer the 130 and 75 size, not a fan of the 90. The 110 & 130 get about the same number of bites and when fishing for largemouth I will usually choose the larger bait. I have a 130 in the Perch color that's been annihilated several times. Quote
Black Hawk Basser Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 I only have a 130. I bought it just for fun, hoping to either get a muskie's attention, or big bass. I have only thrown it for maybe two hours in two years. I should give it more opportunities, as I've gotten a couple muskie blow-ups, and I have caught a few bass from two to four pounds. I guess the only reason why I don't throw it more often is that I don't really have a suitable rod to throw a 1.5 ounce bait. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted May 29, 2020 Author Super User Posted May 29, 2020 It appears many Whopper Plopper sizes are good ... I have a Abu Garcia Veritas bait cast rod in H / F that I currently use only for Biffle Buggin (like that hard , instant deflection this rod provides to a Biffle Bug) - any way the WP 130 weighs 1.38 oz. which would be in the weight range of the 7' Veritas (gen 2) H / F rod but instead of #50 lb. braid that most people use with the WP 130 I am going to experiment with either #17 lb. C-XX co-poly or #20 lb. Big Game mono - both will give me a little more stretch when used with the 7' Veritas H / F rod (i.e. the white broom stick) . *MTF : Start with the WP 110 size - they are on sale at Cabela's currently ... Hope this helps you . Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 31, 2020 Global Moderator Posted May 31, 2020 The 75 is shorter, but very heavy for it's compact size and cast like a bullet. Caught a lot of fish on them (just like all the other sizes). Quote
5by3 Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 The 110 seems to be the best size in my area for both largemouth and smallmouth. It’s big enough to draw the big bite, but still small enough to appeal to 1-2 lbers too. I’ve tried the 130, but seem to get much more action on the 110. You can get away with a medium or medium heavy rod with braid for the 110. You’ll need a stronger rod for the 130, that bait is heavy! Im not a fan of the WP 90 or 75. The ones that I have don’t run true and spin around on the surface if you reel too fast. I don’t have this issue with the 110 or 130. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted June 1, 2020 Author Super User Posted June 1, 2020 I bought three WP 130's in : Bone , Monkey Butt and Loon as these colors appear to be able to cover any conditions I might encounter . Other colors such as Blue Gill , I know It , Blue Blood and Phantom Shad I have in other WP sizes already . Quote
