hdanger07 Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 First, I know it's not the largest. My buddy and I were fishing a really small pond (~3 acres) in the Kansas City area and he pulled this sucker out of there. Our scale was in the car a half mile away. Quite frankly, we weren't expecting much. How big could largemouth bass get, theoretically, in an environment like this (I've never seen anyone else fish there)? 1 Quote
newriverfisherman1953 Posted May 26, 2020 Posted May 26, 2020 ^x3. If I’m telling the story without showing the pic, I’d make it bigger than that ?! Nice fish anywhere. Way to go. 1 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted May 26, 2020 Super User Posted May 26, 2020 Id agree 3.5 to 4. How big could they get in a pond that size? I'm in northern iowa. We have a smaller state record largemouth than you guys. I have a pond no bigger than that I fish regularly..caught an 8 lber out of it a couple falls back. 1 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted May 26, 2020 Super User Posted May 26, 2020 I’d say 4 lbs. Now, as far as the size of bass and the size of ponds are concerned, who knows? Two weeks ago I caught this bass out of a pond I’d say is between 1.5 and 2 acres in size. At the time I had no scale (have one now), but did measure it at 22”. It’s my PB. Graphs online say it should be a shade over 6 lbs. I guess what I'm saying is that there are a lot of variables that affect the size of bass in a body of water, so the acreage of a pond is one variable but may or may not be the most important driver. Sounds like your pond may produce decent bass! 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 26, 2020 Global Moderator Posted May 26, 2020 I've caught them up to 6lbs out of ponds I could cast across, also in the KC area. 1 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 26, 2020 Super User Posted May 26, 2020 Looks like an honest 4 to me. 1 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted May 26, 2020 Super User Posted May 26, 2020 The bass you are holding appears to be around 3.5-4 pounds. Next time bring a scale or measure the length and girth of the bass to get a weight estimate. 1 Quote
hdanger07 Posted May 26, 2020 Author Posted May 26, 2020 Thanks for the replies. 3.5-4 was what I was thinking. I asked the second question because I was fishing there a couple weeks ago and saw the silhouette of what looked like a 6-7 lb bass. Just making sure I'm not crazy. Quote

The pond could have some bass in the 6-8 pound range or bigger if the pond has a healthly population of small fish for the bass to eat. Quote

KYRANGERMAN Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 HINT: Hold it closer to the camera and it looks a lot larger. Get a close up pic and tell everybody it was 7 lbs. + Quote
