Looking for some information about the above mentioned lures. How well do they work? What are your preferred colors and size. Also, how do you fish them? Do you prefer these lures over Heddon Crazy Crawlers? Thank you for all your help.

A timely post indeed Jimbo! This menacing primate of mine has been whispering sweet nothings about giving one a try. I do have a few of the new and the old Crazy Crawlers. I have not gave them a fair trial yet. Have you given any thought to the Jitterbug? Maybe you saw the thread from a couple days back discussing it? I wouldn't doubt if the jitterbug excels over the crazy crawler style of topwater action. I know their methods of water disturbance differ, but  not by much. To sum up this post my inner monkey says when you order those pomps add some jitterbugs ?

I have a couple and they have their place, but it's limited.  I think there are more versatile options....sorry to pee in your cornflakes ☹️

I've had great luck with them. My most productive color has been bone. I typically will fish them very early morning or at dusk with fairly calm water. A very slow retrieve seems to be the most effective. I've also tried the crazy crawlers, but find that the Pompadour has much better action so my crazy crawlers have just sat in the tackle box not getting used.

Like them in conditions where you'd throw a spinnerbait.

I watched a comparison video where a guy fished both.  He would fish one for a certain amount of time, then switch to the other one for the same amount of time.  He tried them on a couple different ponds,  and switched up which one he started with.  Although not a great experiment due to limited time, and number of  variables it was interesting.  It was basically a tie, with a slight edge going to the Crazy Crawler.  I always preferred a Jitterbug over a Crazy Crawler, but did catch some nice fish on the Crawler when I was a kid.  Price is the only thing keeping me from buying the Pompadour, I'm sure the Bait Monkey will get me over that hurdle some day.

@Jim Sutter I throw the larger size Pompadour when I throw it, so I can’t speak on the junior version. For me the Pompadour is a spot/location bait during low light conditions and not something for covering water which other topwater options are better suited. As @walleyecrazy recommended bone, I’ll throw bone or a black Pompadour on a slow, agonizing “crawl” seems to elicit some surprisingly violent strikes from bass looking for an easy meal.

Good times and good fishing

I have only fished the standard size Pompadour in bone black and bone white colors.

Any time you would fish a buzz bait or Whopper Plooper a Pompaduor works when you want lots of surface disturbance and treble hooks.

Pompadours cast like a bullet and accurately. I retreive them as fast as possible and still get the wobbling surface splashes. The tail spinner adds to the action trigger a bigger bass strikes.

King Fisher, J_Bricker and WRB,

Thank you for chiming in on this post. Hopefully, I will go fishing this evening and I will throw both.

Great topwater bait in either size when the water is flat. Try experimenting with your retrieve to see what works for you like any other topwater. One of my favorites is bring it up on some Lilly Pads and let it just sit, then just give it a light twitch and work it like that. While you are looking at Jackall check out the Chop Cut another very exciting topwater bait.

It's a fun bait to fish, but the standard size is better than the Jr IMO. The Jr struggles more with any kind of surface chop.

Bluebasser86,

Thank you for that great information. I do not have any of the larger ones. However, I will place an order on Monday for the larger size. Take care and have a wonderful and safe Sunday.
