I don't really have a good reason for asking other than being curious, but has anyone here experimented with how line pick up or IPT changes at a set distance? Will two reels with a 150 size spool, same gear ratio, rated for the same IPT & using the same diameter line pick up the same amount of line at 40 yards out? How would those results differ with two reels with the same IPT but one having a 100 sized spool VS one with a 200 sized spool?

I don't have a line counter or else I'd check this for myself. I have a number of different sized reels, some sharing the same IPT rating, but feel a difference between them after making a 30-40 yard cast. Maybe it's all in my head but the reel with the smaller spool feels line it's picking up considerably less line.

For what it's worth I tried searching on here but didn't see much that could answer my questions. If I missed something during my search and this info is already available please feel free to share. Thanks.

Reel sizes are arbitrary designations, you can’t compare them in this way. Spool diameter in part determines IPT and the width and line diameter determines how much line out decreases spool diameter thus IPT.

IPT or inch per turn of the reel handle I full revolution is based on the spool being 100% filled with a specific diameter line. Reel mfr's don't specific the line diameter used or how full the spool is.

It's to the user to determine actual IPT for any given reel.

What I do is fill the spool with the line used to the level normally used. Using a sharpie mark the line at the rod tip and turn the reel handle 1 full turn make a second mark on the line at the rod tip. The IPT is the distance between the 2 marks at full spool level. Measure yards hook the the line onto something at 40 yards and walk off 40 yards of line. Now repeat the line marking at the rod tip, turn the handle 1 full turn, make the second mark measure the distance for IPT at 40 yard cast.

My size 100 Tatula with 8:1 ratio IPT full was 31" at 40 yards was 18" using .012 diameter line or close to 45% loss in IPT.

Check each reel size/gear ratio you use the you will know.

Now there is some useful information! Partially explains (I know, only partially) why I miss so many hooksets at distance.  Thank you, @WRB      jj

Hooksets at distance are typically the result of the hookset style and the rod moving line. Reel IPT would only be a factor if you are using the reel to set the hook or possibly slack line mgt.

All else equal, a narrower, deeper spool will lose more line pickup speed at the beginning of the retrieve than a wide spool.
