Super User Catt Posted May 25, 2020 Super User Posted May 25, 2020 I have Stanley spinnerbaits that are 10-15 yrs old ? Spinnerbaits should be pretty durable, in my life I can remember 4 or 5 that broke at the line tie (R bend type). I loose more spinnerbaits than I break! Quote
Super User Teal Posted May 25, 2020 Super User Posted May 25, 2020 Heck I lost another good one this morning. .. but I tend to throw them anywhere and everywhere. Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted May 25, 2020 Super User Posted May 25, 2020 Can't catch fish with a spinnerbait? How is that even possible ? Is this real life...is it gonna be like this forever? Quote
NavyVet1204 Posted May 25, 2020 Posted May 25, 2020 What do you guys mean when you say “tuning a spinner bait”? Quote

Tuning a spinnernbait is basically a measure taken to correct it and to make it track correctly. If you toss it out and start retrieving it and see it coming toward you and moving to the right, you can take that bait in your hand and turn the wire slightly to the left and it will correct itself. Similar to sighting in a gun, sometimes it takes a couple shots to get it dialed in... just make small adjustments at a time. Big whopping adjustments can throw it way off. And yes, several brand new baits outta the box do not always track correctly all the time. Most of the time for me, it's a very minor adjustment. Every time I tie on a different spinner bait, I'll toss it out just where I can see it under water and see how it tracks. I try to really look at it the first cast after I catch I fish on them... sometimes fighting a fish will bend that wire some. 1 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 25, 2020 Super User Posted May 25, 2020 I've been very lucky with spinnerbaits, they usually don't break until the last fish. 1 Quote

Teal covered the tuning but I'll add this. If your throwing a spinnerbait out of tune " running sideways " it's not as appealing to the fish and you'll miss a few. 1 Quote
Super User king fisher Posted May 25, 2020 Super User Posted May 25, 2020 I just talked to a friend in Chapala. The spinner bait bite has been going strong for the past week. He completely destroyed 3 spinner baits in one day. Travel restrictions keep me from getting in on the action. I would love to have bass tearing up my spinner baits right now. I can always buy or make more baits, but currently, can only dream of big bass breaking them. I don't mind the travel restrictions, I look at it as once in a life time inconvenience, but I do think there should be a law against someone self Isolating on a lake with an insane bite going on being allowed to call and brag about the fishing. One good thing about spinner baits, is you can always salvage some of the parts to make more when they break. 2 Quote
