Any musicians here?

Just wondering if there is any other musicians here on the forum. I am a percussionist myself and currently am in college pursuing a music degree. Grew up with classic rock, rap, and grunge music around the house, but at school, I’ve been totally immersed in jazz and classical music. Hard Bop is my favorite style to play, but I can get on  to pretty much anything.

I'm a vocalist and graduated college with a music education degree. I couldn't find a teaching job and took a temporary gig at a printing company to support my family until I found one. 29 years later I'm still working my temp job at the printing company.

 

I did sing in a classic rock cover band and an acoustic band for 10 years where I had the opportunity to play a mean tambourine and bang on some bongos. Good times good times..........

Not a pro, or an educated musician, mostly self taught geetar player. After some 35 years, I got what I felt was pretty good at it, playing blues, rock, and some jazz. 

 

Unfortunately, carpal tunnel, and arthritis in the last year or so, has made it almost impossible for me to play chords, single line playing is a bit easier, still I can only play for 15 mins. max. Wound up selling most of my gear. I miss it.

In elementary school, my poor parents paid for my clarinet lessons, followed by trumpet lessons.

I sucked at both, and was easily upstaged by anyone with a banjo or harmonica.

 

In my teens, I fell in love with drums, when the 'Ventures' were my main accompaniment (e.g. Wipe Out).

I graduated from Zim Gar to Ludwig, but never made it to Rogers (inside joke).

I play a banjo . Was pretty good before my oldest son left home. He was my accompianist on guitar. 

I dont play as much as I did. Gonna try to start routinely practicing again though.

I was deeply into music when I was younger. Studied music theory, recording.

 

My music theory instructor told the class one day, "You can either make good music, or you can make money with music, but it is rare to do both" So true.

 

Do what you love, you only live once. I don't play much anymore, but I'll write a piece of music on a rare occasion.

Back about 20 years ago, I used to play bass guitar in a local classic rock band.  We were weekend warriors playing all the local bars.  Had a lot of fun with it.  Played 6 years with the same band.

 

Did not study music back in college, however, I was in high school band (marching and concert) and started by playing the trumpet back in the 5th grade.

 

Instruments I play are bass guitar, guitar (electric and acoustic), trumpet, baritone, some keyboards and some drums.  I also sing back-up vocals.

I was in a metal band doing guitar and vocals for about 10 years.  We mostly played locally but we did get around somewhat regularly to Madison, Amarillo, Denver, Peoria, Sioux Falls, and Des Moines to name some bigger towns.  Our biggest influences were progressive/doom/stoner metal bands like The Sword, Mastodon, and Baroness.

 

They are still sorta going, but I left a few years ago due to several personal reasons and that two of the members never stopped drinking enough to take it seriously.

 

I don't play nearly as much as I used to, but I've been inspired lately to pick it back up again.
