Hey all, this post is primarily for the Maine bass fisherman, or any experienced anglers in the New England Area. What’s working for you all lately? I’ve had some luck on Texas Rigs and some swim and football jigs ... but I’ll have to be honest, it has been a quite and slow start to this year. Any advice? If you’re familiar with maine, I’m fishing the southern part of the state (Little Sebego) and surrounding lakes, ponds, rivers. Water still is cold here and the fish must think I smell or something cause they stay far away from me lately. Haha best of luck to you all this year and thanks for all the responses to come!

depending on water temp Blade baits. Ned, Jerkbaits, tubes, underspins.  S l o w  presentation, frequent pauses, I would look for the first deep drop  and if nothing go deeper

I am in central NH

Jerks, Ned, Neco have out produced everything else.

Surface water temp is now 57.

Males are starting to stage up with ladies back a little deeper.

To tell the truth.... It's been a couple of nice boat rides on a nice day. Southern Maine.

I’ve talked to other anglers on the lakes, seems slow for most people still.

This sounds like me in Connecticut 2 weeks ago. Then boom, temps held an uptrend and the bite is on. I'm guessing with another week of these warmer days your conditions will improve.

I fished Little Sebago last weekend. The entire lake was locked on beds. I spent 6 hours casting around areas that held fish and never got bit. Im not a huge fan of bed fishing, not because of the ethics of it, but because I can catch almost 100% of the fish by using a half inch piece of floating worm, which to me, isn't very challenging. On that day, the only way I was able to catch fish, was to fish beds. It was the most disappointing 20lb bag that i've ever caught. The further south you go, the further along the spawn is. Mousam Lake which is an hour and a half south of Little Sebago was 68 degrees in some coves and I caught a handful of fish on a topwater the day after my Little Sebago trip. It's a tough time of year, and it only gets tougher once the females move off deep after the spawn. Hang in there, throw your confidence baits. The swim jig bite is about to get very good. Fry guarders will be super active and the areas adjacent to where they spawned.
