Jonas Staggs Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 what type of either live or dead bait rigs do you guys use or find most successful? When Im using bait, ill usually just do a double hook drop shot rig, works good with worms and targeting smaller fish, when im fishing creeks for example. I have not had much success with this rig in lakes targeting larger fish, ill get bites but they tend to spit the bait before hooking themselves or me getting a chance to set the hook. I am thinking this could be because with this rig, the line is taught, so the fish are getting resistance when trying to take the bait. The only other thing I can really think of would be to use a carolina rig and either really loose drag or just leave the bail open. Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted May 21, 2020 Super User Posted May 21, 2020 Here in Missouri, some guys use a worm blower. A small plastic bottle with a needle on one end. Hook a big crawler once or twice and give him a small shot of air. Use a split shot 12" to 18" above the bait. The worm will float up off the bottom and wave around. Most fish can't resist it 3 Quote

Jonas Staggs Posted May 21, 2020 Author Posted May 21, 2020 i heard of them but never used them. depending on where i go and how im fishing, ill usually have 1 bait pole setup while I "fish" with my other pole Quote
rlm1 Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Don't use live bait for bass fishing. Don't see much sense in it personally. Use what works best for you! Thanx, Randy Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 21, 2020 Super User Posted May 21, 2020 The Carolina rig is to bass anglers what a lake rig is to everyone else a sliding egg sinker above a swivel with a leader. The lake rig is universal for every bank angler world wide. When I started using live bait for fishing both salt and fresh water the fly line rig using no weight just a hook was preferred. If a weight was needed a split shot for fresh water or a rubber core sinker for salt water was added. Deep salt water live bait we used the dropper loop rig, a variation of today's drop shot rig. Fly lining lively bait like baitfish, crawdads and big nightcrawlers is your best rig for fresh water bass. Tom 4 Quote
Black Hawk Basser Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 What I do to catch a lot of bass on bait is to throw a simple sliding sinker rig with cutbait, having the intention to catch catfish. I inevitably catch some of the biggest bass of the year! 1 Quote

I have started saltwater bass fishing as well so that will help. 23 hours ago, rlm1 said: Don't use live bait for bass fishing. Don't see much sense in it personally. Use what works best for you! Thanx, Randy Dont tell me what to do. What you see, and what I see, may be 2 different things. If you read my post, I have a 2 pole setup when I bank fish...a bait pole....and another to "fish". This setup is what works best for me. thanks for your pointless post. Quote

There went a $120 combo. 1 Quote

My "I" must have stuck on my keyboard, I wasn't criticizing you for using live or dead bait, should have read "I don't use live bait"...don't worry bud won't say anymore to you. Randy 2 Quote
