Ultimately I don't believe that a lot needs to be spent on a spinning reel. I am still using a 15-20 year old Shakespere Excursion on my river rod I leave in the truck, or on my trout rod. That reel by far has caught more bass than most of my other reels and is still going strong.

DITTO ... recently had my Mitchell 300 Goldx reconditioned for 30 dollars ... about 18 yrs. old ... IPT 32 ... 16 max drag and comes with a spare downsized shallow spool making it ideal for bass fishing ...

forgot how many bass i've landed with it ...

good fishing ....

My favorite spinning reel right now is also IMO the best bang for your buck. The new for 2020 Lew's Carbon Fire Speed Spin. Dick's sporting goods exclusive aluminum frame reel for $69 on sale now for $59

Following this with interest...have been giving some thought to upgrading my spinning setup, but not a huge budget to do it, and I'm leaning toward putting more of the money toward the rod (something like a Dobyns Fury, St. Croix Bass X, etc.).

So I've been looking at the sub-$100 and really, sub-$75 reels. I have looked at the Daiwa Regal, Revros, and Legalis, as well as the Shimano Sedona and Sahara, and the Lew's Carbon Fire. Seems like these all get generally good reviews and tend to be the best in the price point (along with the Pfluegers), and I can't really find much to set one apart from another. I'll probably just end up picking the one of these that I happen across the best sale at some point.

I would look for the Daiwa BG combo on sale....You can often find the Rod and reel for $120, and its actually a nice rod.

I use the BG 2500 for fresh and salt, it is marketed as a saltwater reel and believe the bearings are sealed, with that said, I have 2 that have been going strong for over 4-5 years...

All the Daiwa reels over $50 are good values. I just picked up a Revros which i really like, its super smooth, and the Regal and Legalis are also nice reels for the money.

The Okuma Helios is a nice reel, may be a bit over $100 but is a good value and Okuma has fantastic customer service if you ever have an issue or need parts from my experience. For $100 you can find plenty of good reels, Sometimes you can find an older model on Ebay much cheaper than you would normally spend. New is new....

Up until about 2011 or so, all I ever bought were Shimano reels, botr spinning and baitcasters, this is when they were made in Japan. I stopped fish for about 7 years. When I went to buy new gear, (reels) I first looked at Shimano spinning reels, I noticed they were no longer made with the anti reverse, which came in handy when you wanted some extra line. Now you have to disengage the bail to do that.

For that reason alone, I jumped on the Diawa band wagon. I have a brand new Sharha, which is fine, cept No anti reverse. My Fuego has that, so the Sharha is a back up..
