Super User DitchPanda Posted May 19, 2020 Super User Posted May 19, 2020 I'm sure this has been covered before...but is anybody using a chunk style trailer on a swim jig? If so which ones? I've really gotten into swim jigs this spring..I've used them for the last several years but something really clicked on the last month or so and they are great for me now Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 19, 2020 Super User Posted May 19, 2020 A swim jig is a category today where yesterday any jig retrieved in the middle water column acswim jig. My 1st "swim jig" was a Scrounger jig, still my favorite. You can pin any trailer you desire onto a jig and swim it. Tom Quote
Ogandrews Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 You definitely can put a chunk on a jig and swim it. When I pick a trailer for a swim jig, be it imitating crayfish or bait fish, I will try to get one that has enough action to get the jig rocking back and forth and get the skirt pulsing. On a lighter jig something like a paca chunk would do this well, although a paca slim, rage craw, rage menace, or chigger craw would do it just as well and give the jig a more full bodied profile. I generally don’t use chunks very often because I like how a creature or craws body will give the jig a solid uniform body. Could just be me being picky, but I think using a full body trailer gives the bait a more natural profile. Obviously chunks work, I’ve caught a lot of bass on chunks and there probably isn’t a better trailer around than an old school pork chunk. It’s mostly just what you have confidence in. Quote
frogflogger Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 Trim a pork chunk properly and it will have amazing action - great for a swim jig - we use to use them alone on a weedless hook as a surface lure. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 I use two. Either a craw (SK Rage) or a Yamamoto Zako (both styles) Quote
Fastbee Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 A Zoom Super chunk is one of my favorite swim jig trailers, mainly because it is my favorite overall jig trailer. I don't really throw "swim jigs" I throw jigs. Like I mentioned in another post, I use the same jigs for most everything. The presentation varies from time to time, and even from cast to cast in some places. 2 Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted May 19, 2020 Super User Posted May 19, 2020 Generally if I'm throwing a swim jig I want some action out of the trailer because unless you have a really lively skirt you're not getting any from the actual jig. On a straight retrieve I can't imagine a chunk would do much. My go-to is a paddle tail 3-4 inch, sometimes a grub if I'm looking to downsize. If I really wanted the baitfish profile without much action I'd lean towards a fluke. Quote

Super User Munkin Posted May 20, 2020 Super User Posted May 20, 2020 I use Zoom Super chunks if I am both pitching and swimming the jig. Allen Quote

Heard that's what there designed for I just caught a few bass the other day on a jig with a swimming chunk. I wasn't exactly swimming the bait, though. Quote
