Odd way of catching bass.

A few weeks ago my son and I fished a local community lake.  We started with a few different plastics and moving lures.  Not a bite.  One of the guys we were with had some cut up mackerel rigged up to a drop shot.  He was actually going for catfish, but was able to catch several bass with this set up and just one catfish.  Eventually my son and I also changed to this rig and were able to catch fish.  Not ideal for us, but it was a way to get on some bass.   The hardest part was hooking up.  Seems like they would take the bait, but not enough to get a good hook set.  We lost probably 5 or 6 fish once they jumped and threw the hook.   Any of you guys ever try this from the bank?

It's almost as if fish are predators with tiny brains.

I have lost count of the 5 pound or bigger bass I have caught on cut bait while fishing for catfish. Also caught bass on a bare hook, bread, a piece of gum, hotdogs, and other unusual bait.

I've caught big bass on fresh cut bait, and frozen cut bait. My dad even caught a nice walleye on a chunk of cut bluegill under a bobber floating over submerged grass for bluegills.

 

I've also hammered the catfish on jigging spoons, bladed jigs, caught them on buzzbaits, frogs, and targeted big flatheads intentionally with big, deep diving crankbaits. It's only strange if you try to stay inside the strict guidelines we try to set for the fish.

After initially failing to get a bite, Matthew McNellis told KDAF reporter his girlfriend suggested using a Chicken McNugget as bait. 

 

 McNellis says he took the bass to Highview Marina where it was declared a record-setting catch at Lake Bardwell. Weighing just under 11 pounds and measuring 24.5 inches long.

Nah, I just need to know about every fish captured all across North America. It’s a disease and I can’t cure it

A drop shot rig is just a modified catfish rig.  Been using for all species of fish ever since I can remember.
