flipflops Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 We are in our late 30s - my boyfriend absolutely loves bass fishing, does have his own boat, equipment all that. We live in East TN area - Southwest VA. I want some ideas of what to do for his bday that is something bass fishing related that would knock his socks off. Something equipment related - poles, reels...newest and best, maybe a charter or guided trip, anything? Help me out! Quote
Cdn Angler Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Doe he order stuff off tacklewarehouse? If so login and peruse his "wishlist." Buy him those items. If you know what models/ brands of lures he likes...get more that are similar but slightly différent sizes, colours etc. 1 Quote
flipflops Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 He has a LOT of lures so I think he is good there. Are there any really hot rods or reels out? What about a guided bass trip to a really hot bed bass lake? Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted May 18, 2020 Super User Posted May 18, 2020 You didn't give us a price range. So I ask myself what would I want folks on this site to say if my wife ask the same question. I'm very picky about the tackle I use so I wouldn't want anyone to try to pick that out for me. I would suggest this. If he loves his boat. See what brand it is and order him some branded apparel (hats shirts etc). Most major boat manufactures have a great selection on their web sites. If he doesn't like his boat and can't wait to replace it then this is a bad idea. 1 Quote
flipflops Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 Nope hates his boat and getting a new one next year, haha. Price 500 or less for one or multiple things. Quote

What about a guided bass trip to a really hot bed bass lake? There are plenty of new rods and reels out. A good place to start is Tackle Warehouse and click on the "New Items" section. Then you can look at the new rods and reels for this season. It might be helpful if you get a look at the brand names on the rods and reels he uses and stick with those. Some folks only like certain brands. 1 Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 $500 can get him a day on the water with a guide I am sure. Which is what I would want my wife to get if she was looking to blow me away with a surprise. I am very particular with my gear so that would be a little iffy unless she got my wishlist stuff. I would vote for a day on a good bass lake with a guide for a day with a better chance of catching that giant fish of my dreams!!! 1 1 Quote
flipflops Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 With us being in Southwest VA - Northeast TN the best lakes near us for bass looks like Lake Chickamauga and Santee Cooper. Quote

South Holston and watauga can also be very good at times Quote
flipflops Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 We live right on these lakes but seems bass fishing off late can be tough and not many guides to put them on here. Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Chickamauga is one I hope to fish at some point in my life and a lot of the other lakes in Eastern Tenn. I would think any of those lakes would be a great day with a guide that can stay on the fish movements better than most people! Quote

newriverfisherman1953 Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 I know you said bass but there is some excellent striper fishing in East TN. Might look at a striper guide. 2 Quote
flipflops Posted May 18, 2020 Author Posted May 18, 2020 Im gathering that Chickamauga is a great lake for bass? 2 Quote

State Record caught there last year. It probably won't mean much to you, but this lake is stocked with "Florida Strain" largemouth which is a VERY BIG deal. 2 Quote

Super User soflabasser Posted May 18, 2020 Super User Posted May 18, 2020 Go fishing with your boyfriend as much as possible. That would be worth more than any thing you can buy him. 4 Quote
BoatSquirrel Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 These folks could probably help you with a guide on Chick... daytonboatdock@yahoo.com http://fishdayton.com/ Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 18, 2020 Super User Posted May 18, 2020 If your husband is anything like me, he might not relish a guided trip (my wife would perish the thought). A gift certificate for Tackle Warehouse is a relatively risk-free route. Roger Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 18, 2020 Super User Posted May 18, 2020 Suggest a G. Loomis flipping and pitching stick for around $500 at https://www.americanlegacyfishing.com/fishing/fishing-rods.html' Check the G. Loomis box and have some fun!!!!! I must admit you are a sensational person to take the time to do this for him. Quote
scbassin Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 As has been said A gift card to Tackle Warehouse Is very safe. He will get something he will use. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted May 19, 2020 Super User Posted May 19, 2020 I woudnt want a guide . A cabin rental with a boat slip for several days would be more my style . 6 Quote

flipflops Posted May 19, 2020 Author Posted May 19, 2020 But if its a lake you're not familiar with wouldn't a guide be good to maximize the most fish and day 1 Quote
