I found an old shimano front drag spinning reel in my grandpas stuff years ago , I just did a tune up and it is having a problem with the drag , the bale only turns on way ( unless you turn the switch) so there is only one way for line to be wound onto the spool . If I pull drag it works fine but doesn’t click , it will only click if I turn the spool in the opposite direction . What could be going on with this reel ? Thank you all in advance !

If the drag is working properly...why does it need to click?

The drag works fine it’s just weird that the clicker is somehow reversed , I like having a clicker just to know when drag is being pulled . It seems like it has to be something simple but I can’t wrap my head around it.

Sounds like part of the drag system under/atop the spool is reversed. If you don't have a copy of the schematics for the reel, there are several places that have old schematics. A Google search for "(brand model) schematic" may pull something up

Example: "Pflueger President 25 schematic" gives me four different places that have copies of the schematic for the reel on my ML rig.

Look inside the spool and you should see a little spring loaded clicker. It contacts the click gear on the main shaft. Either the clicker has partly broken off or the spring is bent, broken or misassembled.
