basser27 Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 Ordered a bunch of baby brush hogs from bass pro. About half the baits are deformed. This is a first for me from zoom 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted May 15, 2020 Super User Posted May 15, 2020 Weird, I have ordered over 40 bags this spring and not a single one has had an issue. When you say deformed, do you mean like the legs or something aren't right or maybe it was that they were stored in a way that caused them to bend in an unusual way and stay that way? 1 Quote

The flappers And body are bent. Im guessing from being stored that way over time 2 Quote

Super User Cgolf Posted May 15, 2020 Super User Posted May 15, 2020 That is unless they were put in the bag improperly at Zoom? Only quality control issue I have had with zoom is some baits come dry as a bone, what I prefer, and others have so much oil additive that its like trying to hold onto that water filled practical joke toy that is meant meant not be held lol. Wildbillb Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 Probably the way BPS had them stored. You'd be amazed 1 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted May 15, 2020 Super User Posted May 15, 2020 I doubt worry about these baits. I've used all sorts of Zoom stuff over the years. They'll still work Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted May 15, 2020 Super User Posted May 15, 2020 Depending on how they are deformed, I have boiled water in a mug and then dipped baits in them briefly to get the bend out. Essentially set them on a paper towel to dry. Works pretty good. 3 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted May 15, 2020 Super User Posted May 15, 2020 I got some upside down flukes from them once. The slot that’s on the bottom was on the top. Theyre my favorite bait company by far though. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 15, 2020 Super User Posted May 15, 2020 I don't doubt the validity of your dissatisfaction for a second. Maybe I'm making excuses for Zoom, but when you look at the bigger picture, Zoom produces a broader array of soft-plastic favorites than any company that comes to my mind. In the grand scheme, a company so heavily invested in quantity is likely to experience some glitches in quality control. Overall, I think very highly of Zoom, and their price points enhance my tolerance. Roger 3 Quote

I've certainly used more Zoom plastics over the years than any other by a fair margin including Brush hogs. I also believe the OP may have received a " glitch ". 1 Quote
jbrew73 Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 I like zoom better than BPS so I’m blaming bps. Quote
lo n slo Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 start throwing them and see what happens. you could be on to something here. 2 Quote
suzuki2903 Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 Never had a issue with baby brush hogs but the flukes are a different story.. they could really use a better packaging for those so they aren’t bent and smashed. Boil some water and dip them in and they are straight but that’s not something I should have to be doing. But they catch fish and I still buy them . 1 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted May 16, 2020 Super User Posted May 16, 2020 I've never experienced this with zoom myself and I use a lot of there products. If I had to settle on one soft bait company it may be them. They make my favorite worm, craw and chatterbait trailer. Plus they have super flukes and a senko knockoff to fill that niche and they also have a lot of cool productive baits I.E brush hogs, centipedes and various big worms. Also mentioned above is price point-I believe they are the best bang for buck too. Last but not least they have my favorite version on sungill and green pumpkin colors I've seen. So I too would be pretty tolerable of some bent baits myself. Quote
LuckyHandsINC. Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 Zoom super fluke is one of my favorite baits. Catch a ton of fish on them every year but I’ve had my fair share of issues with them. They are at the cheaper end of the spectrum as far as baits go I’m sure that plays a role. Personally I’d be fine paying a little more per pack for a more consistent product. Quote
JLewis134 Posted May 16, 2020 Posted May 16, 2020 Zooms baits often deform and have issues as they are just thrown in a bag and kink up. Boiling solves the issues most of the time. However, the price point is usually much cheaper. Strike King knocked it out of the park with the clam packs which ensures the product stays perfect Quote
garroyo130 Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Worst I've had is the nipples on the end of the Trick Worms which you have to clip off Quote

Super User Mobasser Posted May 21, 2020 Super User Posted May 21, 2020 I never worry about a small deformation on plastics, especially plastic worms. One of my favourites is the Zoom finesse worm, in purple or junebug. The bass seem to like em better after they've been bit a few times, and are ragged looking anyway. In a past thread, lo n slo called them " the old warriors". The ragged beat up worms work well. 1 Quote

These are soft plastics and I feel the blister was used mostly for presentation on the sales floor so they can put less in a package and make it.look full. They have marketed it to fisherman as a way to prevent bending but that wasnt the original intent IMO. 2 Quote

primetime Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 Only time I have ever noticed a difference in quality for Zoom or any of the other baits made with them, is when there is a clearance sale or liquidation somewhere....I do believe some companies bag their "Slight Blemishes" and sell them cheaper at times....Can't throw all the blemishes in the garbage cause they still catch fish and I usually dont notice much of a difference unless it has a paddle tail. Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 22, 2020 Super User Posted May 22, 2020 Out of the 100's of zoom baits I've bought over the last zillion years, I've had 2 that were slightly deformed, those being 2 super flukes. These were from about 8 years ago, or so. So it's hard for me to complain. Quote
