I palm with my thumb on top of the frame in front of the spool.  3 fingers in front of the trigger.  The SS SV103 shares it's platform with the later 1st gen Steez.  It has the enlarged gearbox to accommodate an 8:1 gearset and Zaion side plates.

Huh, I don't think my hands are big enough to hold most reels that way.

I keep looking at the SS SV reels when they come up for cheap but I am a size-weenie and have never gotten a sense of how big they are, but finding pics of an OG Steez should be easier, thanks!

Thanks, I'll look into it. I was strongly considering just getting a new ss sv103 and the gear/drag set from TT but now I'll start researching the 105. $300 for the upgraded ss sv103 is far cheaper than any of the used sv103 I have seen and at least the ss would be new. That's a lot to pay for old tech but the cheapest option I have found for a decent sv spool and no t-wing. I should have never picked up my daughter's tatula sv tw...

The "over braked" 103 spool shouldn't bother me much as big distance is rarely a concern when skipping and flipping jigs.

I like mine. It is essentially a Steez with a few less bearings, but there are a couple of significant differences.

Most people, including myself find the stock spool to be over braked. Not a big deal to me I replaced that with a Zillion SV TW G1 spool ($90 from The Tackle Trap)which works very well in the SS SV.. The original spool works pretty well in the OG Steez and TD-Z reels so I put it into one of those.

I added the "missing" bearings and brought the count back up to 11 and upgraded the spool bearings to ceramic.

The last thing is the drag. Many don't care for it, but as of yet I've had no problems with it. I'm sure that there is a way to change out the drag to the Steez stack, but haven't needed to look into it at this point.

The reason it is so light isn't because it is cheap. it is because the frame is made from Titanium. That sort of hollow feeling is normal for a Ti framed reel. To me the reel as I modded it is now much like a Steez, which are listed at around $500. To some people I guess the Steez feels cheap too.

I have mine on a 6'1" Megabass Speed Tip Special (XF with a solid stinger tip) and use it for small jerks, topwater baits and Ned rigs etc when fishing in and behind brush and flooded scrub.

Which bearings are these missing bearings? These ones in the handle knobs?

Yes, If I remember correctly, they skipped the handle bearings that came stock on the Steez.

Awesome thank you. You still have and use the SS SV?

Yes. I have it on a Megabass Destroyer Speed Tip Special rod and use it for lighter weight (< 1/2oz) top-water stuff and for small Texas rigged lizards, 1/4-3/8 casting spoons and things like that.

I like mine pretty well too. When I bought it I was hoping that because it was a spinoff from the STEEZ OG reels that it would be pretty much like it. But even after changing out the spool, the bearings and adding the handle bearings, it still isn't a Steez...but for the price it holds it's own in my opinion.

Of course I paid around $190 brand new and not the $350 or so it listed for. If I would have had to pay list and then replace the spool and add bearings, I wouldn't be that happy with it I don't think. As it is, I have spent around $330 on it (not including a bit of bling) and for about 2/3 of a Steez and I ended up with a reel that is about 2/3 of a Steez.

I managed to get one off the bay for $109 shipped. Dropped in the 8.1.1 gear set and drag upgrade from TT,  then grabbed a longer carbon reel handle (it included bearings in the knobs). Still using the stock spool, but I mostly pitch and skip jigs with it so its not a problem. While I'm not very experienced with the high end stuff I'm VERY pleased with this reel at about $220.

I've never owned a steez so I wouldn't know lol. I think it's a pretty decent reel. Only complaint like most is the drag other than that it's pretty solid.

Heck yeah, for $109 it's a steal. The original spool is pretty over-braked but IMO not unusable as long as you don't need 50 yd bomb casts. But for the guys with the trick thumbs who like the somewhat wild and on the edge spools, it probably seems really lame.

If you like the SS SV, you'd probably love the Steez reels. The old ones that the SS SV is derived from can be had used for under $200 in really nice shape. Maybe you should look into them the next time you're on the market. They feel a lot like the SS SV except for smoother and more solid.

Yep.

If you are looking I might suggest starting at Ichiban Tackle in Japan. I have bought a lot of stuff from them and they have always been very good about honestly reporting the condition of their used gear and for the most part are cheaper than The "Bay".

That's funny you mention that. I just found them this year and that's where I bought my SS SV from. I appreciate all your help thank you!!

Is the drag pressure the same on the steez ass like it is on the SS SV?  I'm going it's stronger. I'm looking to getting one shortly. I'm be using both of mine for weighted/unweighted soft plastics as well as the SS SV.

No, the drag is good on the Steez.
