MartinTheFisherman Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 (edited) Hey BR, I decided to go fishing yesterday at the Nashua River since the weather is still like 45 degrees and the fish aren't spawning yet. I fished from 5 to 8 and, What a day! I caught 1 largie, 1 smallie, 1 perch, 1 crappie, 3 pickerel, 2 pumpkin seed, 20ish bluegills, and my first ever golden shiner! Now I know what they are eating! This was the best multi-species day I have ever had! Here are the pics! How many species have you caught in a day of fishing? Edited May 13, 2020 by MartinTheFisherman i cant post the instagram pics :/ 4 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted May 13, 2020 Global Moderator Posted May 13, 2020 Hard to say, usually several. East TN is a hotbed for biodiversity 1 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted May 13, 2020 Super User Posted May 13, 2020 Nice catches. I have caught over 20 species of fish in 1 day of fishing in South Florida. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted May 14, 2020 Global Moderator Posted May 14, 2020 Today we got flathead catfish, white bass , yellow bass, smallmouth bass , and some kind of sunfish. Not really targeting anything particular except monsters with cut bait (no bites on cut bait) 1 Quote
Tlauz Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 Almost every time out rock bass, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and northern pike. Throw in a sunfish, bluegill and musky every once in a while. Growing up it was perch, Northern Pike, walleye and bullheads. Lots and lots of bullheads. 2 1 Quote
Fallser Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 On my local creek, most diverse day smallmouth, largemouth, 4 species of sunfish, bluegill, pumpkinseed, redbreast and green, rock bass and a stocked trout. I like the golden shiner. I've caught a few of them on my fly rod. They were 8-10 inches long. They would great bait for muskie or pike or really big bass. 1 Quote
Super User Teal Posted May 14, 2020 Super User Posted May 14, 2020 In one day? Hmmm probably 4 or 5 different species at the most in one day. Cant remember. We have a healthy population of bream (all sorts of sunfish and bluegil) perch, crappie, striper, hybrid, largemouth, channel cats, blue cats, flat head cats, chain pickerel, and long nose gar... a very small population of walleye. On days when the bass bite is slow and the pickerel are on fire I'll entertain them. They are fun to catch. Theres something about a fire tiger spinner bait that sets them off. 1 Quote

Where I fish there are much more bass than chain pickerel so you usually catch a lot more bass than you catch chain pickerel. Spinnerbaits is a very good lure for them. 1 Quote

Oh yeah, we have more bass too, but we have a plenty healthy population pickrels...I def catch more bass... but some times o just find myself on s pot where the pickerel are packed in there 1 Quote
ArthurLK11 Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 Nice man. Those days where you get a lot of different species are my favorite. You never know what's going to come up. 1 Quote
Nelson Delaney Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 On a lake in Maine my best day ever included northern pike, large & smallmouth, brown, rainbow, brook trout. Perch & crappie.....and a mystery that was either a large sucker or a fallfish. All caught on leadcore trolling sunken islands. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 16, 2020 Global Moderator Posted May 16, 2020 I think the most species I've caught in a day was; White bass wiper walleye white crappie black crappie smallmouth bass largemouth bass yellow perch rainbow trout green sunfish drum bluegill channel catfish All caught on a jerkbait or Ned rig. 2 Quote

You have to know where the chain pickerel are and once you find the place you usually can do well and catch a good amount of them. Another lure I have done well with for chain pickerel is jerkbaits which is another good multi species lure. 1 Quote
Ogandrews Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 Not sure what the most ever was but I know this fall while fishing a pool under a dam on a smaller river here in Minnesota I got walleye, sauger, smallmouth, Pike, channel cat, carp, bigmouth buffalo, drum, white bass, moon eye, redhorse, white sucker, and lost a shovel nose sturgeon next to the boat in one day. 1 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 18, 2020 Super User Posted May 18, 2020 This weekend was a great multi-species time for me. Largemouth Bass Chain Pickerel Yellow Perch Pumpkinseed Bluegill Redbreast Sunfish Fallfish I saw Brook Trout and Carp but didn't have the bait they were looking for. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted May 23, 2020 Super User Posted May 23, 2020 Man you guys really get into the diversity. Rivers are pretty dynamic systems so it’s probably gonna happen there. When I’m bass fishing (especially for largemouth), I almost always catch pike too. But very rarely do I catch 4 or 5 different species of fish. I have also never caught a catfish, bullhead, carp, drum, sturgeon, dogfish, or any species of trout in over 20 years of fishing here in Minnesota. 1 Quote

TN is located in the south but there’s a lot of chilly waters so we have nearly everything. World record smallmouth and walleye, lots of trout and stripers, yet tons of swamp fish like gar and 100 lb catfish 2 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted May 23, 2020 Super User Posted May 23, 2020 The best state in the nation for multi species fishing is Florida. There are hundreds of species of freshwater and saltwater fish you can catch, including big game saltwater species that often weigh hundreds of pounds. It is common for a good Florida multi species fisherman to have caught over 100 species of fish in his/her lifetime while most landlocked state fishermen have a hard time passing 50 species of fish caught in a lifetime. 3 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted June 1, 2020 Super User Posted June 1, 2020 Warmouth, green sunfish, channel cat, and largemouth all in one day last year. 1 Quote
